Really strange book. Koontz is defintely original. I don't know where he comes up with his topics but they all scare the crap out of me. But I always keep reading and buying more Koontz books.
If you are a Koontz fan - you'll love this as usual. But if you don't like creepy and gorey you won't like it.

One of my favorite Dean Koontz books--two people are clinically dead for a long while. After the docs manage to revive them, they bring something back from the "other side." One brings a force of goodness; the other broings a force of evil. These Forces must do battle...here on Earth.

Hatch has just survived a car wreck. Well, actually, technically he DIDN'T survive it--Hatch was clinically dead for 80 minutes. When he comes back, there is SOMETHING with him, a presence in his head...a mysterious, murderous character who calls himself Vassago, and yearns for nothing more than death and destruction...

But Hatch is determined to continue his life. He and his wife adopt a child. They live happily. But Vassago is closing in. He, too, is aware of the connection with Hatch, and he would relish the opportunity to ruin Hatch's life, and kill everyone he loves...

"Hideaway" is one of Koontz's all-time best...and also, as he points out in the new afterword, the first to receive hate-mail. Still, don't let a few letters get you down; "Hideaway" moves along at breakneck speeds, like most of Koontz's books, and features characters that are so real, you are genuinely afraid for--or of--them. This is one of the best books by one of the best authors out there, and shouldn't be passed up by suspense fans.

I love Dean Koontz so my opinion may be a little biased. He writes a very satirical letter following this novel replying to people who were highly offended by the subject. This should make you want to read this book without further detail. But in essence it is a battle between evil and good.

This is an old classic by Dean Koontz. It concerns a man who is revived after a car crash, who was clinically dead. He starts seeing visions of a murderer who is stalking women near where he lives. He knows he has to stop the man, but how can he find him, and how can he stop them when he can't tell the police what he knows? It is a very suspenseful book and is definitely worth reading.

I love this book! Read this many years ago (when it was first published) and the ending has stuck with me. I enjoyed the pace and the good vs evil theme. Don't read this late at night...or you will not sleep peacefully.

Typical Dean Koontz.....great! As always, the characters begin to become "people" and draw you in to their world and situation. This author is one of few who get this right every time without becoming the same story, different names.

Enjoyed it quite a bit, but as I have read so many of Koontz's books, I can't say it was the best one, but I liked the battle of good versus evil at the end.

Dean Koontz! Now there's a name to remember! Like Stephen King, he's a teller of strange tales! This is one of the first I read, a few years ago, and I was hooked! If you can take the graphic depictions, you will be rewared with a great story! Of the two authors, Mr. Koontz is the one I would want to spend time reading! And I read alot of mysteries! He's the best of the best!

I generally like Dean Koontz, but haven't finished this book yet. I started it so long ago that I'd really have to reread from the beginning! Just thought I'd share it so someone else could read it in the meantime...

I usually stay with police procedurals/murder mysteries, but once in a while I like to break out and Dean Koontz never fails to entertain. This book contains a seriously sick serial killer, with a big dash of macabre thrown in and topped with dollop of good and evil/light and dark.

Hatch is brought back to life after an extended period of being flatlined from a horrific accident and he finds he has a mental "connection" to the serial killer. While it takes him a while to come to terms with it (the frustrating part of the story for me), once he finally does, the action then kicks in and the story moves quickly. But don't let that deter you, because learning about the serial killer is the real "carnival ride." Another great Dean Koontz novel.

From School Library Journal
YA-- Koontz's latest thriller sits at the intersection of the weird and the ordinary. Once again, he explores a ``what if'' scenario in a most satisfying fashion. In this case, a near-death survivor accidentally carries a piggy-backing evil spirit through an open door from the afterlife. Hatch Harrison, the typical good-guy hero, is revived by a brilliant team of doctors more than an hour after drowning. Strange visions and half-waking dreams soon convince him that his recovery is not at all normal. His fears are soon magnified when people who have annoyed him are murdered, and he knows that he is somehow responsible. Paralleling the story of Hatch's recovery is the unfolding revelation of a young man so evil that ordinary people cannot imagine his existence. As he skulks about selecting victims to murder and mutilate, a bizarre bond develops between the two men. Gory incidents tumble one after another as the two men become locked in first a psychic and then a physical battle between good and evil. The violent climax is symbolically set in an abandoned amusement park where at last the true duel identity of the murderer is revealed. Once again, evil is resoundingly defeated, but as any Koontz fan knows, the victory is only temporary.
