I don't usually like non-fiction, or religious books. In fact, I had to read this as part of a class. But I found myself going through it faster than expected, and in my spare time... regardless of your beliefs, it paints a very powerful portrait of love, loss, and most of all, faith during the Halocaust. Bringing out the best and worst in man... a real tearjerker.

this was a recommendation from a friend after she discovered how much the holocaust intrigues me. I have read dozens of memoirs from survivors of the holocaust, but never one from a woman who helped Jews escape the horror of camps and ghettos. amazing read, and puts a new perspective on WWII. there were good people out there-and some survived to tell about it. this story will bring you through each emotion, have kleenex at your disposal: for the tears of sadness and laughter!

This book is one of those that you cannot put down til finished. Kept my interest! Talks about the men and women that were taken into concentration camps. It is not all gloom and doom. The strength and courage of Corrie Ten Boom and her sister is amazing!!! God is with them through it all. One of the phrases taken from the Bible " Be thankful for all things " . The trials they endure are amazing.

This book feeds the soul. There are just some books that force you to feel human and ask you to love others. I first read this book more than 10 years ago. I have since read it at least 10 times. I read it when I feel sad. It does not make me feel worse but better to know that there were and are such people in the world as the ten Booms. This book and this story is a classic and really moves into any time period to showcase the best of the human race.

This is a great book about Corrie Ten Boom's experiences during WWII. She helped many Jews until she, along with her sister, was caught and sent to a concentration camp. We can learn much from her example of faith and courage even in the most dire of circumstances! A must read for everyone.

A phenomenal story of faith, humility and strength. Of course, it is easy to be blown away by Corrie Ten Boom's courage but her humility and her power to forgive are what really makes this book stand out...and speak to the heart.

My son had to read this for a school project, then everyone in the family read it on his recommendation. Very good telling of the halocaust that is appropriate for young readers. Not so horrible to be overwhelming, yet realistic.
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Corrie Ten Boom stood naked with her older sister Betsie, watching a concentration camp matron beating a prisoner."Oh, the poor woman," Corrie cried."Yes. May God forgive her," Betsie replied. And, once again, Corrie realized that it was for the souls of the brutal Nazi guards that her sister prayed.
Here is a book aglow with the glory of God and the courage of a quiet Christian spinster whose life was transformed by it. A story of Christ's message and the courageous woman who listened and lived to pass it along with joy and triumph!

I have a friend who quotes this book and uses it as practical knowledge in many life situations, and that's what this story was meant to do.
A fantastic presentation of real-life drama -- sentimental memories of a simpler time before the war; the fear, insecurity and hate of the war; and the healing after it.
God's loving and merciful Hand is shown throughout the book, in a kind, reverent and simple way. No preaching or Bible-thumping. Just a simple Love that permeates even the darkest depths of this true story.
No matter what your faith or your life situation, do not miss this book. Worth every minute.

We had to read this book 25 yrs ago in High School and to this day I remember it fondly. It was such a sweet yet sad tale that everyone should read. Corrie Ten Boom was a remarkable woman and had a beautiful family. The holocaust was such an awful occurence in history and should never be forgotten.

As a child, my mother made me watch this movie version with her. I was young and it was a little too much for me to understand at that time, though it helped me understand quite a bit about hatred and forgiveness and love (and life during WWII in Holland and Germany). I remember always enjoying listening to stories similar to Corrie Ten Booms (like missionaries and more). Her story of forgiveness spoke to me as a child. Now that I finally decided to read her book 22 years later since I had first seen the film, It was so much different to me and more effective. There were so many amazing details and great encounters and GOD-Moments (and miracles and answers to prayers) that I really enjoyed reading about. I had always loved the spirit that Betsie Ten Boom had, but goodness, I loved that woman while reading it all so much that I admire her so highly and want to have such a love and gentle sincerity for Christ as she had. It would be amazing to meet the people in heaven one day (like her father, who was a treasure of a man to be able to be so involved in his children's lives and the people in his town that his kids actually LOVED Jesus and all were involved in some form of spreading the word of God to others. That is a huge example of a father who taught the word and lived it that his children followed suit!! Excellent book worth reading!!

This is such a moving account of a real woman who helped beat the Nazis in the Netherlands. She survived a concentration camp because of her faith in God and Jesus Christ.

This is a very inspirational book about bravery, love and perseverance. Two Dutch sisters helped Jews to hide during the Nazi occupation of Holland. They themselves ended up in a concentration camp because of their work. Corrie Ten Boom tells the story of their faith in God and how it got them through horrific times. They helped others in the same situation to have hope, as well. Even if you are not a religious person, you will be inspired by their story. I highly recommend it.

Excellent book, I have read several times. It gives a tragic but inspiring look at what things were like for many during the World War II holocaust. Corrie Ten Boom has a wonderful way of speaking in her book and keeps one captivated throughout!
I had this on my shelf for about a month before reading it. It sounded interesting, but I was afraid it would be heavy or hard to read.
It wasn't. I read this easily in 24 hours. It was very easy to read & not as heavy as I feared.
The main theme of this book is to show love to others even if it puts your own life and safety on the line & Jesus will take care of you in return. It's a very simply written & simple to understand book with a beautiful message.
I will remember the message of this book long after I remember the plot and heroic characters.

Very touching. A dramatic and moving biography of very brave and faithful sisters. Corrie Ten Boom's story of her dramatic capture by Nazi's and her and her sisters time in Holland and German war camps is captivating. You end with a realization that with faith you can make it through anything.

This is both well written and an amazing story. It is not a good read aloud for young children, but I expect people would know that by the subject matter. I learned some new things about how the holocaust affected some people, but most of all, I learned about how people could praise God even for fleas in a concentration camp dormitory! You'll have to read the book to get the details on that! :-)
