Yowza! She is an amazing writer, a superb narrator, but she was so very high for so very long, and didn't finish school...how did she write such a well written book? But nevermind that...what is so great about this one, and so different from most memoirs, is the fact that not once did she BLAME anyone else for what she did, nor did she cry woe is me. She even blamed herself for the incest, though she was so young when it began, and he had gotten her so high. And she never stopped loving anyone who hurt her. This was a good book.

I listened to the audiobook in one sitting. All six hours of it. I'd seen Mackenzie on Celebrity Rehab a couple of years back and thought we had some things in common. I knew about the incest prior to picking up the CDs but the way she described it, in detail, was really shocking. I can't relate to that part, thank goodness, but it still brought me to tears and the parts I could relate to were even more emotional. I can't pick out the best parts of the book because it's all really great! It is a must read (or listen) for anyone who has true horror in their past and may be finding it hard to leave it in the past! Mackenzie is an inspiration to many, and maybe a lot of that is because she is unique in her ability to love and forgive unconditionally. With all that she's been through, that alone is exceptional and speaks volumes of her character!

Mackenzie opens up about her life in the fast lane. It is reverent and honest to the point of shock! Looking for love, Laura Mackenzie Phillips turns in some dangerous directions. My heart goes out to her. After much drug use, incest by her father - the famous hippie Papa John Phillips, rape and countless other happenings - hopefully she can have some peace knowing that she has tried to overcome her addictive behavior.
