When Alexis decides she needs to save her sister from being brainwashed by a rich playboy in Sin City she has no idea what she is getting herself into. Alexis is a busy Lawyer who thinks her sister Brittany is in way over her head with Ethan Carrick. Alexis talks Brittany into going home and letting Alexis take her place as his "bimbo" on his arm because she thinks Brittany is way too sweet and innocent for the job and would just get hurt. What Alexis doesn't realize is that Ethan is the president of the Vampire Nation...making him THE vampire. He needs an edge for his political platform. He feels that if he has a mortal woman at his side he will be viewed as a "nicer" vampire for the election coming up. What he finds is that Alexis is a little stick of dynomite and she thinks he is a whacko.
I have read a couple of Erin McCarthy books and have to say she does lite whimsy fluff so well. Her sense of humor is witty and yet sarcastic enough to make me appreciate her characters to the max. Who else can have their characters call each other pet names such as BallBuster (or BB for short) and Garlic?
I gave this book a rating of 4.5 stars and will definitely read the next in the series.

Light, funny, sexy vampire romance. I enjoyed this one. The ending is not 'tied up' so you pretty much need to have the sequels on hand..I've read the first 2 and there are still loose ends though the couple the book focuses on has their HEA and show up in the next book also.

High Stakes is a lot of fun! After her dentist sister is seduced by one of her patients who also happens to be a vampire, Alexis sets off on a mission to free her sister from vampire Ethan's glamor. Instead she finds herself falling for the blood-sucking casino owner, even though she is immune to his glamor.

This is a quick and light read. In places it is LOL funny, but it is also very sweet. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

I gotta tell you that this is no Shakespeare or Chaucer but I loved this book! It was the perfect choice for what I needed! I had minor surgery and was bed bound for 4 days.. I whipped through this book so fast! Alexis is a hoot! She is wound so tight and needs something to "sooth" her.. Ethan could sooth me any day! lol
This book is part of a series (The Vegas Vampires) and as soon as I finished this one I had to pick up the other 2 right away. (Bled Dry - Brittany and Corbin's story, and Bit the Jackpot -Seamus and Cara's story. there is a 4th now but I have yet to read it. it just came out Sucker Bet - Gweneth's story.. not sure who the guy is yet.. will be great though!)

This is a funny, witty vampire tale. Light hearted and romantic

Ethan Carrick is a nice guy, not to mention a very hot,weathy,casino-owning vampire, that just happens to be the President of the vampires. It is an election year and he needs to find a suitable First Lady, preferbly here in Vegas...
Brittany Baldizzi is a smart, pretty -and sweeter then a glass of diabetic O-negative. But her sister Alexis steps in with a message for Ethan: Bite me. It's then that he realizes it's teh sexy, no-nonsense Alexis who raises his stake.

It took awhile to get into it but it's a cute, fun read. The characters are likeable. The ending isn't all tied up so it leaves room for sequels.

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. The main character Alexis really gives some balls and lack of tact to a female heroine, but her sarcasm and quick come backs keep this novel going. Ethan and Alexis have great chemistry and a push pull back and forth that gives the book an edgy and different spin on the chick lit vampire genre. I immediately read the follow up and can't wait to get to 3 & y to see where Brittany's story goes.

Vampires in Vegas? Why not? This is the story of Ethan -- the head vampire -- and his search for a new wife, who gets more than he bargained for with Alexis and Brittany.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, was well written and the two main characters even keep you snickering at their comments to each other. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it for vampire lovers.

Aside from the sex, this is a pretty juvenile book. The writing and characters are shallow and the story just races along without much really happening. It is very very light reading. One thing McCarthy does is set up a lot of future reading and much of the plot is unresolved at the end. Characters all kind of sound alike and McCarthy has them saying things that left me scratching my head.

Don't let the title fool you, this is actually a great first book in a series. The book is about a vampire nation that minics our democracy. The president of the vampire nation has to take a wife and is willing to marry a woman he does not love for the good of the nation. Little did he know that the shorter and curvier sister to this woman will not let her sister go so easily and comes looking for her. His charms do not work on the sister as they do with all woman. She is a strong female character in this book and I love the fact that she is smart and has a career. Plus her and the president's banter back and forth is very humorous. I enjoyed this book and am currently reading the second book in this series which follows the storyline of the president's struggle for re-election against an evil vampire and the struggles with the various other characters in the book.

I have started this book twice. I just couldn't get into it and forgot about it. Then started it again. And I still can't remember how the story ends. I am not sure why really the characters were likable, it had funny moments, action, and the plot was alright... but something went wrong and it was forgettable and just couldn't hold my attention. I even had to look back through the book before submitting a review to make sure I was talking about the right book! And I think the ending was a kind of cliffhanger for the next book and that is why it is so unfinished feeling. I LOVE series books that have recurring characters, and plot lines that continue on in the next book, but only if I feel that each book is complete and can stand on it's own, and this one I feel could not. I might read book 2 in the series just to see if it gets any better and maybe the first book was just an intro to better things to come?

I read the other two books from this author(Hiress for Hire and A Date With The Other Side) and found her writing to be very funny and easy to read. In this book, these vamps have personality! The first book of the Vegas Vampire Series was an easy read that leaves you wanting more. The dialogue had me laughing out loud! It's Fun, flirty, and sexy writing that I would definitely recommend! Very good read!!

Loved the Vampire President idea, but something kept me from loving this book maybe characters lack of humor or humorous situations provided by the book.

This book was not bad. It was a decent read. I was a little annoyed with Alexi's when she kept saying, "bite me" to Ethan the hot main guy. Other than that it was a cute book, not as hot as other vamp books but was ok.

I liked this book. It was a quick read. Had lots of humor. I do feel like the book started in the middle. It didn't have the long intro into the heart of the book, so it grabs you from the beginning. The author introduces several characters but doesn't finsih their stories which means you really have to read books 2,3, and 4 to see what happens next.

Silly, cartoon-like characters. I had to force myself through the first 100 pages. Managed to slog though the rest. I dunno, this was a let down for me because I do enjoy Erin McCarthy as a rule.

Nice change from the "standard" vampire novels we seem to be seeing lately with the super alpha male. It was witty, and fun...the ending came too fast.

Light hearted, romantic and funny... It's a bit slow in the beginning and picks up speed about midway...
Looking forward to reading Bk 2...

First of McCarthy's Vegas Vampire Series. Definitely a more tame, democratic Vampire society than most. Ethan Carrick a nine hundred year old vampire and Vegas casino owner is running for re-election for President of the Vampire nation. His campaign strategy is to find a suitable first lady. His first choice, Brittany Baldizzi decides she would rather reform the vampires, which is okay because Ethan finds that he prefers her tougher older sister Alexis. Fun, fast read.

Not surprisingly, this book series has been read out of order. But not too badly. I think that all in all, I enjoyed reading this book at this time especially because of the political climate. I enjoy following politics, but this definitely gives it a new view. lol.

I imagine that there are a lot of games to stay on top of when running for president as a mortal. I never imagined how much fun it would be to picture the many things a vampire would have to face when campaigning. First, you have to do so in a manner not to make the mortals aware of your presence. Then there's the matter of falling in love with the "wrong" sister...someone killing off your staff members and trying to frame you for it...all while still running one of Vegas' more successful casino's.

Lots of fun. Fast paced. All in all, an enjoyable read.

Ethan Carrick is the head vampire in Vegas and of course he owns a casino, because what the heck else could a vampire do in Vegas? He is currently the president of the vampire nation and campaigning for reelection. Of course, he thinks he needs a wife to win so enter prosecutor Alexis Baldizzi. She is rather irritating and he is to mamby-pamby for my taste and not even remotely sexy. He just annoyed me as did his sidekick, Seamus. Even the half-hearted attempts on his life by his opponent, Donatelli weren't engaging. It seems to me that Ms McCarthy missed with this series. The snappy repertoire between Alexis and Ethan is supposed to be funny but I just found it corny and overused.

The only characters I enjoyed were Alexis's sister Brittany and her one-time lover, exiled vampire Corbin. This is not a series I would normally continue but since Brittany's story is next, maybe I'll give it a another try.

Ethan is a nice guy who owns a casino and is running for re-election for President of the Vampires. He's looking for a suitable woman to be his mate. He thinks he's found her in Brittany Baldizzi but once he meets her sister Alexis he finds he's picked the wrong sister. Brittany is sweet where as Alexis is a person who states what she feels. Can a vampire and a mortal woman (who is finding it hard to believe she's dating a vampire) really find true love and happiness. This book is funny and sexy. Can't lose with an Erin McCarthy book. Book 1-looking forward to the next.

I loved this book! Looking forward to the rest of the series now!****

From the back cover:
He's a bloodsucking freak of nature. But, unlike other politicians, Ethan Carrick is actually a nice guy. Not to mention a very hot, wealthy, casino-owning vampire. It's an election year for vampires, which means he'll first have to escape his opponent's hit men. Then he'll have to find a suitable First Lady, preferably here in Vegas.

Brittany Baldizzi fits the bill. She's smart, pretty- and sweeter than a glass of diabetic O-Negative. But her protective sister Alexis steps in with a message for Ethan: Bite me. It's then that he realizes it's the sexy, no-nonsense Alexis who raises his stake. And as much as she denies it, Alexis wouldn't mind a romp in the coffin with him. But can a mere mortal, even one who risks her life for him, make a centuries-old, womanizing vampire feel something entirely new?
