This is the third book in the triology, although it can be read as a stand alone as the story does not hinge on knowing what happened in the first two. Again this is a book that I have reread several times.

"Highlander Ever After" by Jennifer Ashley is the third book in a trilogy. I did not realize that the book was the third in a trilogy until I was quite far into the book. I prefer to read books in sequence but I did find that this book could easily be read without having read the other two books. Having read this book, though, I WANT to read the first two books. I enjoyed that the book had a little bit of a paranormal aspect to it but it was not overpowering - just enough to add some interest. The characters were well-developed, including many of the minor characters. I adored Egan and found myself wishing that my husband would wear a kilt around the house! My two favorite minor characters were the half-Logosh (shape-shifter) Valentin and Mary - I am hoping they might have their own book in the future. Throughout the book, there are several steamy scenes which I thought were tastefully done and exciting. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys romances with a strong, Scottish main character and a slight paranormal twist.

Loved the story. Sometimes young love lasts.

This is book 3 in the series, and is really interesting. I was excited to read how the whole thing unfolded and to learn more about the 2 main characters and their past's. This is my favorite book in the bunch, maybe because I have a soft spot for Kilts! YUMMIE!!

It was just okay. I found it a bit choppy.

Kind of boring.
This book is burdened with a difficult premise for a romance novel: The hero and heroine already know and love each other. They were kept apart by circumstances but are now together - right from the start. So where to go as a storyteller? Unfortunately Jennifer Ashley doesn't solve this writing conundrum in any satisfactory way. She puts the pair together and then nothing much happens except each person having fantasies about the other for about 60% of the book. It wasn't the most engrossing story. And the finale and explanation for the shenanigans is silly and makes no sense. There is a cute scene at the end with all the Highlanders swimming but I'm not sure that makes up for 300 pages of "not much happening".

I am going to admit that this rating isn't fair. It's just that my expectations of Ashley's work is quite high. Compared to her other stuff I thought this was just okay.
Both Eagan and and Zarabeth were likeable. The story was sweet although I thought Zarabeth's reactions to Eagan's proposal wasn't really addressed before it was magically resolved. The side characters were great. Even though there was some humor in it, it wasn't as much as in her other books.
It was a decent read and I would read more in the future. Kind of a lukewarm book.

I didn't dislike it, but this book was no where near as good as Ashley's Mackenzie series. I must say the steamy parts were well done, but they don't start until more than halfway into the book.
