This is such a delightful ~and sometimes sobering~ modern account of a fearless couple endeavoring to make the nearly impossible dream of life on a farm work, without sabotaging their relationship and the author's successful writing career.
Made me laugh out loud! Great book!

Essay style memoir written about the author and her partner's journey into the world of farming. At first I felt like it lacked some depth, but my mind changed as I went on. Not only do you read about the struggles of farming, but about the difficulties that arise in relationships and self-growth.
I laughed and I cried.

This was the August 2009 selection of my book group. A memoir. To tell the truth I judged this book by its cover, ugh, sheep farming. But ... I found it was a good telling of the struggle with personal boundaries, goal, life styles that can be handled within a relationship so both people enjoy their lives and the success of a new endeavor in life. The author's writing style is clear, sometimes filled with humor, and each life episode rings true. The construction of short chapters adds to its readability. It is also about the aspects of "knowing" your food, issues of healthy eating, the learning to farm and raise animals in low impact ways. The author and her partner still have the farm and a very well done website.

You don't have to be a farmer or even ever dreamed about farming to enjoy this memoir. Funny and poignant, there's something in this book for everyone. Enjoyable quick read!

Great story of how two city gals bought a large piece of land and started a farm. The author hopes to keep her writing career but her life is interrupted by farm duties. Wonderful descriptions of animals they acquire and how they learn to take care of them. Undercurrent of their relationship is always running on high, with quarrels and stress. Finally some therapy works and compromises are made. My description sounds dull but I assure you there were many laughs, and a few tears, throughout this book. I'm just sorry I read Sheepish first as now I realize it was third in sequence. Am sure I'll enjoy Compassionate Carnivore as well. Easy-to-read writing style.
