Rico Fraser is on the trail of Ben Slatter, who murdered Rico's mother three years before the story opens. When Rico is notified that Slatter abducted a young heiress and her aunt, Rico is sure the women have been murdered. However, he follows Slatter's trail and is able to kill off some of the members of the Slatter gang before rescuing the women.
Rico is close-mouthed about his reasons for chasing Slatter and Jenny Burke thinks Rico is nothing but a bounty hunter. Jenny has problems of her own; her father is self-absorbed and indifferent to his daughter's desires.
There's lots of action and Slatter is a wily adversary. This is the last book in the Fraser series (unless more are added later).
