When I first started reading Olivia and Tanner's story, I thought it I wasn't going to like it because it was very similar to Rance and Echo's. But it was just slightly different enough to keep me interested and it was a very cute story with some paranormal elements.

After reading Olivia's story I couldn't wait to dive into Ashley and Jack's. I actually adored Jack. Everything he did and the choices he made kind of made sense, even the ones I didnt' like. But Ashley I wanted to slap, multiple times as the story unfolded. She claims to be a grown women but she is far from one. She is an idiot who lets everyone run her life and barely ever speak up. By the time she does in the end of the story it wasn't even believeable because it was so out of her character to. I absolutely hated Ashley and thought she ruined the story for me.

So I enjoyed the first story but the second one was a little annoying.

OK, ok, I know these are Christmas stories. But why did LLM list them as part of the Stone Creek series?

These are contemporary stories, using the family name of OBallivan. Other than the name, there really wasnt anything tying the stories back to the Stone Creek series. Frankly, I felt cheated; I felt it was just a marketing gimmick to sell more books.

"A Stone Creek Christmas" -- If you have no problem with a veterinarian (Olivia) having conversations with her dog and finding a lost reindeer (in Colorado), this is the book for you.

Because it is a holiday story, I suspended incredulity and enjoyed the tale.

"At Home in Stone Creek" -- This is a shorter story about one of the OBallivan twins Ashley (younger sister to Olivia) .

Owner of Ashley's Bed and Breakfast, she is still pining for her former lover, Jack. Because of the secret nature of his job, Jack left her sometime in the past. Now Jack is back and hes in trouble; folks are looking to shorten his life line.

This seemed to be a significantly less fleshed-out story than the first one in this book. LLMs strength lies in her characterizations, so it was a surprise to see so little done with these characters.

Stone Creek Series:

1. The Man from Stone Creek (2006)
2. A Wanted Man (2007)
3. The Rustler (2008)
4. The Bridegroom (2009)
5. A Stone Creek Christmas (2008)
6. At Home in Stone Creek (2009)

I enjoy Christmas stories as well as the writing of Linda Lael Miller so I ordered this book. It was an interesting book! The first one amused me where the vet. "talks" to animals telepathically. I didn't appreciate Olivia's big brother, Ben, interfering in her life but I guess that's what happens. I'm 60 and my older brother still pulls those stunts!
The second book was not quite as good as the first one which is why I rated it 4 stars. Ashley needs to grow up and deal with the situation as it is. I loved Jack and wanted the best for him so I was pleased they worked things out.
