A quick romp through the Hollywood machine. Amy get's hired out of college to be the 'title' character in a new TV series. Along the way, the powers-that-be in Hollywood demand weight-loss, highlights and extensions, a stylist overhaul, and a name change. 'Star' is now on her way.

Follow Amy/Star through the changes she finds in her lifestyle through the season's of her show.

Hollywood 'blind items' are sprinkled throughout the book, which if you are a blog reader you'll likely be able to guess who they are, as well as identify who some characters in the book were based on (the stylist who keeps her clients in nose powder in order to drop a few sizes .. anyone recognize?)

This book was OK for me. This is the first edition which has some spelling and punctuation errors, which have been fixed in the second printing. It's a fast and fun read, but it left we wanting. It seemed like the authors intent was to be able to spill blind items rather that build up the plot. But, it was still an enjoyable read. I certainly do not feel it was worth the $17.95 that the publishers are selling it for (this is more a trade paperback and should be retailing for around $12.)

a light, fast read, nothing too deep - funny if you keep up with the hollywood gossip, not a book that stays with you after you read the last page.

A Hollywood car wash, according to author Lori Culwell, is the transformation process imposed on women in the entertainment industry. The novel details the hollywood car wash heroine Amy Spencer is pressured to under go including liposuction, rhinoplasty, cosmetic dentistry, and dangerous diet drugs to keep the lead in her hit television series. Nor is the transformation process limited to Amy's physical appearance, but also spills over into her personal life when she is paid to date mega celebrity Brad Rockwell.

For those who haven't heard the rumors, Hollywood Car Wash is whispered to be about Katie Holmes. Culwell denies that the novel is based only on a single person, but rather states that "it is a number of true stories interwoven . . . ." Culwell explains her inspiration came from "the complete nonchalance with which my actress friends were told to lose weight, 'get better looking,' or change something about themselves in order to get or keep a part. This, combined with the downright absurdity of some of the stories about the business I heard and experiences I witnessed first-hand, convinced me that there was a novel in there somewhere."

Regardless of whether Hollywood Car Wash is based on Katie Holmes or not, it reads like an insider's guide to the industry. From the amoral producers and agents to the backstabbing costars Hollywood Car Wash serves up delicious dirt! Culwell's tome is the perfect beach companion!

I love light chick lit, and I tried really hard to give this book a chance, but after page 126 I didn't like the main character at all. I thought the writing was mediocre at best, the plot was nothing new, and the character development was really off. I stopped reading it and am sorry I won't get those 2 hours of my life back.

Lori Culwell delivers an intersting perspective into young hollywood and makes me wonder how true to life this is. It definitely makes me look at gossip magazines/shows in a different light. Otherwise, the book is a fun and fluffy read.

Since the novel is about a college student who is suddenly whisked from her drama class in the midwest to Los Angeles to star in a "Gossip Girl"-like sitcom, what makes this book work is the life she leads outside the job. From having to stay "in-shape" and doing whatever it takes to make herself look camera perfect, to having the right boyfriend, etc.

Definitely recommended for those light, summer reads.
