I tried three times to read this one and each time I cringed at the saccharine-sweetness of the little, perfect town. Perhaps I'm not the target audience for this one.

Wonderful heartwarming book. It was so descriptive that it made me feel like I was actually in the small town of Mitford everytime I opened it, and I couldn't wait to read more each time I finally put it down at night. The characters are really personable. My favorite character is Dooley...love his interaction with all the townspeople. Took me a few chapters to really get into it, but I am so glad that I did...I highly, highly recommend this one!!!

LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! I have heard so many good things about the Mitford series and I ordered it not quite knowing what to expect. The characters are all so real and loveable :) I am now working my way through the rest of the series!
A few years ago my mom and I were reading in our living room, and she was reading this book. Then all of a sudden, she started laughing until her face turned red. I was very confused and kept asking her what was so funny and she finally read me an excerpt from "At Home in Mitford" about Barnabus. Then I laughed until MY face was red. From then on, I was hooked. What a great series!

This is the first novel in the Mitford series. I love these books. Father Tim, the bachelor rector contends with a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away and an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge.
