Love this cozy series, good fun, good mystery, great cast of characters and always the cliff hanger at the end. Good idea. Can't wait for #4, should be great fun as these others have been. Read and Enjoy.

In Hot Water is the third installment in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade mystery series. The series centers around Stella Griffin, fire chief of the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade in Sweet Pepper, Tennessee.

Stella has decided to take the full time position of fire chief and move to Sweet Pepper from Chicago, leaving behind her rat of an ex. She lives in small cozy cabin built by past Fire Chief Eric Gamlyn, who had been killed in an accident 40 years ago. Eric's ghost still inhabits the cabin and has become Stella's roommate, best friend and mentor.

When a suspicious fire claims the life of ex state representative Barney Falk, Stella sets out to investigate. Barney wasn't the most liked fellow in town and there are plenty of suspects including his own son who is now running for his father's old seat in government, and his grandson who has questionable ties to the drug community.

The arson investigation isn't the only plot line in the story. Stella finds herself trying to keep Eric's cabin from being demolished by town councilman Bob Floyd. Everyone in town including Bob thinks that Stella's cabin is haunted by Eric's ghost, but only a couple of Stella's closest friends know that Eric really exists. Stella has issues with Bob and had threatened him with Eric's ghost so Bob is more determined than ever to destroy the cabin.

Eric has been stuck between the cabin and the firehouse since his death. Stella is shocked to discover that by carrying Eric's old Chief badge with her, Eric can now accompany her wherever she goes. This proves to be both a blessing and a detriment as Eric has a way of causing trouble when the mood strikes him.

The community has also decided that there is a need for a fireboat on Sweet Pepper Lake to help fight fires in the ritzy community located on the steep cliff sides. Stella meets local boat builder Rufus Palcomb, who offers to outfit the Brigade with a new boat, joins up as a volunteer and tries his best to win Stella's affections away from sometimes beau Police Officer John Trump.

This is a wonderful series full of interesting storylines, a great cast of recurring characters, the two delightful dalmations Sylvia and her son Hero, and of course Eric. While it might not be necessary to read the books in order, I highly recommend starting from the beginning in order to get to know Stella and her friends.

The last paragraph of the book had me letting out an audible gasp, followed by a very loud "OH NO". I can't wait for the next edition - Sweet Pepper Hero.

In the latest addition of the Sweet Pepper FD, we find Chief Stella Griffin embroiled in a fire that could possibly be arson, and the cause of death of an ex state representative....added to that, her cabin has been purchased, and the new owner has vowed to bulldoze it down....
