I did like this book. It does have an arguably happy ending, which I like. But by the end, I was getting rather tired of the little monster girl and the repetitive nightgown-lifting scenes and descriptions of her dirty charms. I'd give this a 5 out of 10 - it won't change your life, but you won't wish you hadn't wasted your time.

OHMAHGOSH! The books start from five different characters, and you wonder why Bentley Little has structured the book this way. AND then... the House brings them together, and not in a good way. This isn't a haunted house story, but an evil creepy house story.

Bentley Little has become one of my newest favorite authors. His books are very scary, but not stupid. This one is about five people who all lived in identical haunted houses when they were little. As adults, they are called back to their childhood homes to finish up some business. I loved this book!

This was the first book by Bentley Little I could not get into. I could not get interested in it because of the story jumping around from person to person.

Five strangers are about to discover that they share a dark bond. A haunted childhood. A shocking secret. A memory of the houses they lived in -each one eerily identical to the next. From the remote foothills of the west to the green lawns of sunny sububia, they are returning-to the past, to the unspeakable events they long to forget...to the house.
And their journeys are about to converge, in one terrigying challenge to confront thier nightmares-or be trapped inside them forever....

Not one of Little's best. There were too many characters involved, and I had to jump back and forth to make sre I knew which person he was talking about! Neat story but a little confusing.

Five strangers simultaneously experience terrifying nightmares and strange hallucinations. These unnerving events reacquaint each of the individuals with a childhood they would rather forget and memories long repressed. It soon becomes apparent that each of these four men and one woman once lived in identical houses--right down to the arrangement of the furniture. Each character must return to that childhood home to confront the demons of the past and liberate their souls from the shackles of despair. Reading this battle of good versus evil is a nail-biting experience.

I thought this book was pretty good. It was scary in places, but I also thought it was a little confusing at times. If you enjoy Stephen King's horror novels, you will probably like this one.

I give this one a 2.5 stars--it involves 5 characters stories involving incidents of their childhood taking place in 'the house'--but by the time it finally draws them all together it is beginning to get a little tiresome and boring and I found it hard to finally finish it after I skipped through the last few chapters, it just had gotten repetitive and tiresome to keep going over and over the same thing.

Looking at the cover you would think this was just another haunted house story but it is so much more than that. Very interesting story that keeps you intrigued until the very end. Plenty of sex, gore and horror to satisfy any horror fan.

This book differs from Little's later style, but is still a good read.

Very interesting how the House was the major character. There were several other characters whose stories were told, as well, and this was a bit confusing remembering which person had which experience. It was an enjoyable read for the most part.

Five complete strangers from across America are about to come together and open the door to a terror they couldn't even begin to imagine. Inexplicably, four men and one woman are having heart-stopping nightmares which revolve around the houses where each of them were born. When terrifying events occur, each person is drawn to their identical childhood home to confront an ancient evil that dwells in a place they all call home - a sinister supernatural presence which has pursued them all of their lives, and is now closer than ever to claiming their souls.

I must say that after reading The Resort by Bentley Little, my expectations about reading this book were quite high. Perhaps they were slightly too high. Not that this book wasn't tremendously frightening - it certainly was. I just found that the story couldn't quite sustain the fear enough for me throughout the entire book. I think I would have preferred The House to be about fifty pages shorter. I give this book a B+!

Not Bentley Little's best work (in my opinion). I don't remember finishing it. I know others who really liked it though. Order it and decide for yourself.
