Nice horror story. Reminds me of Clive Barker's two books "The Hellbound Heart" and Cabal. Sadistic beings torturing and maiming people and an underground city with unusual beings.

An unusual story about friends on their way home from vacation. They turn off the interstate to stop a fight between two friends and wind up stranded. Ahead, there is a house...

Very good read. Kind of predictable in spots, but different too.

This is classified as horror for a reason & some of the events that unfold within these pages are quite disturbing!

Overall I liked this book quite a bit. The pacing is fast, the plot somewhat original and the writing style fairly crisp and clear.

My one big complaint is that the characters are not developed as well as they could be, therefor I had a hard time really caring what happened to any of them. Still, overall I'd say this is a good, solid piece of horror.

This is only the second book I've read by Smith, but they are very good, comparible to Brian Keene's works.

Decent, but The Freakshow was much better. Even though this story was ok, I'm not going to go out of my way to get the sequel.

a very good book. it was a very fast paced read and worth th read if your into gory horror which i am. the only compliant i have is with the charactors. i had a hard time liking any of them and thought they all seemed like high school students not 30 somethings.

From the Back Cover
Later, the ones left alive would agree they never should have turned off that dark stretch of Tennessee interstate. They were tired and tense, two guys and three girls arguing over a vacation gone bad. But things were about to get worse for the five young friends. Much, much worse. In fact, most of them would never see the highway again.
The woods were dark and forbidding, filled with unseen dangers and inhuman sounds. The light in the distance promised sanctuary from the grasping terrors. Instead, the light lured the travelers to the very heart of evil, a house at the entrance of Hell, a house that held only torture, depravity and--for the lucky ones--death.
When the front door closes, the screaming begins!

I've tried several of Bryan Smith's books and I just can't stomach most of them and just quit and move on to something else. There is just so much foul language, gore and deviant sex I can take in a book and this is just stupid to try to read nothing but that in a book, the story is ridculous and just stupid!
