I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The House at the Edge of Night takes place over several decades and follows three generations of the Esposito family on the island of Castellamare. Castellamare is a small place that is unconcerned with the outside world, a place where everyone knows each other and gossip is more important than the news. The island is itself a character in the story, with a rich and magical history full of folklore and traditions. Like any other community, however, Castellamare has its share of ups and downs, love and loss. Children move away to explore the outside world, there are wars, and global financial crises eventually trouble the small island. In spite of all that, the spirit and faith of the island remains strong and that makes the book a heartwarming read that I will revisit again.
