Quite surprised by the Gay/Lesbian and genereal sexuality theme in this. Haven't encountered that with L'engle before and I've read dozens of her books.

This book is a story about growing up that deals with the REAL crises that come with growing up. L'Engle deals with sexuality in a very honest way, discussing not only the questions that are asked in the process of maturity, but also the bigger issues and emotions that come alongside it. Very different from L'Engle's other books that I have read, but still worth reading.
with the l'engle books, i had rarely ventured from the wrinkle in time series, but when i finally read the inside cover and found that this book's main character was the daughter of the characters in the other books, i read it in about three days. l'engle's coming-of-age books are absolutely amazing, and this one is no exception. i found myself never wanting to put it down, which is pretty rare for me these days, and was highly disappointed when it came to an end. this is a great read.
Yeah, like someone else said this includes a gay/lesbian angle and some sexuality. My question is, Polly is only like 15 or 16 and the guy she has sex with is quite a bit older. Isn't this considered statutory rape? Hello people.... And then she's all shocked that her friend is a lesbian.
I've just discovered that this book is re-published. Why? Who decided this? There are other better books by her that should have been re-published.
I did enjoy reading the book and it brought up a lot of ideas that will, maybe, make people think. But I think that parents should read this first before their "adult" children do.
Just my opinion.
