although the book was fairly well written, to me it was more comedy than mystery. The plot was very thin and very little suspense, if any. However if you like very lite reading this would be your cup of tea. To say she writes like Christie is almost an insult, more on the order of Dorothy Cannell but not nearly as well. I was very disappointed because I Love Agatha Christie.

Jane and Shelley try their hand as decorators for a group of feminists. The contractor, a woman, of course, ends up in a heap on the basement floor and no one, man or woman, liked her. All had one motive or another to see her go away but the perpetrator is a big surprise! I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. Love Ms. Churchill's novels!
This was ok, not my favorite in the series. Still worth a read if you like Jane & Shelley.

This book was a disappointment to me. I've read Churchill before, and remembered her work as 'okay'... but this one has some lines, sentences, and conclusions that just don't make sense, IMHO.
A nice cozy mystery series. Entertaining as usual.

I don't usually give one star reviews but I thought this was one of the worst cozy mysteries that I have read. I have read some of Jill Churchill's other books and liked them but I thought this was a bomb. I found it boring and hard to finish.

I've like the earlier books in this series, but I didn't think this one was as good as the others. Still fun to read, though.
Jane Jeffry has agreed to help with the redecorating of an old mansion by an all- woman crew. Soon one of the women is dead and the many other things are going wrong.
"Homemaking" is about to take on a whole new meaning for Jane Jeffery, now that she's agreed to help the prosperously divorced Bitsy Burnside restore and redecorate a decrepit old neighborhood mansion. Bitsy's decision to employ an almost all-woman crew has prompted Jane's quick-witted best bud Shelley Nowack to dub the project, "the House of Seven Mabels"-but it's also engendered some nasty ill will. And when what begins as a series of anonymous, mean-spirited "pranks" ends up leaving one of the workwomen lying dead at the foot of a staircase, Jane and Shelley decide to try and nail the assassin. But the more Jane saws away at the truth, the more it appears that she may be painting herself into a corner, leaving herself no exit if a crafty killer decides to make Jane Jeffery the next demolition project.
This is a great book and an easy read.
