I have mixed feelings about this book. It was an interesting story about a young Jewish girl leaving Vienna and her prominent family to escape the Nazis by going to England as a maid. She was waiting for her parents to get a Visa to America where her sister was and send for her to reunite the family. In the meanwhile, the war started and she got to love Tyneford House and fell in love with the master's son.

The book was so slow at times, it got boring and I felt myself skimming a lot. The ending was predictable, but fulfilling and in spite of the negatives, I enjoyed it.

This story is an interesting combination of "Diary of Anne Frank" meets "Downton Abbey". Odd as that may sound, it works fairly well. Recommended for fans of either genre.

Elise Landau moves from pre-Nazi Vienna to England in 1938 to escape the coming of Hilter to her homeland - perilous for she and her family because they are Jews.
She gains a position at a Manor house as a parlour maid and everything changes for her.
This book had me captivated from page one through to the end. Infact, I didn't want it to end. Well worth the read!

Enjoyed this novel, definitely reminiscent of Downtown Abbey and novels by Kate Morton as mentioned on the cover. Fun read.

Not so good. The premise was good and I wanted to like this book but I found myself skimming through some of it and did not like the ending at all. So I would not recommend this book.
