The parts of this book that were interesting where the author's descriptions of the French towns, landscapes, customs and the various French food that her and her family ate. Also, I could relate to her and her husbands troubles and I could admire their dedication to make their marriage work.

At times this book just didn't flow together. It seemed like it just jumped from talking about food to family problems in every other paragraph. It was good, but, for me it just lacked something to really tie the two subjects together. Also, the author says she gave up her Food Network show, because her husband didn't want to be married to a "star" and all the privacy issues it created- yet he's okay with a book about much of their private and intimate family issues.?! That part I had trouble understanding.

Overall, if you're interested in French cooking and family I'd still recommend this book though, with reservations.

There are quite a few VERY vivid descriptions of butchering animals so, if you have a sensitive stomach you might want to skip this one. It's okay, but not one that I couldn't wait to set down and read each day.
