When I initially picked up this book I anticipated a humorous vampire novel. I expected it to have its serious moments but overall I expected to find a light, funny, and entertaining book. The title of the book alone is enough to make you want to laugh after all. I was glad to see that I was not disappointed in that aspect.
Kerrelyn Sparks does a superb job of taking every stereotype of a vampire novel and turning them on their heads. Roman Draganesti, the hero of the tale, might be tall, dark, handsome, and brooding but thats where the typical vampire cliche ends. Roman might be a millionaire and the owner of Romatech but hes not exactly your typical millionaire either. Hes a total nerd, a former monk, and hell bent on saving the lives of mortals everywhere. Hes the creator of synthetic blood and hes even developed a line of flavored blood for vampires to savor. Flavors include Chocolood (chocolate blood), Blood Lite (a fat free blood formula) and several others.
Then there is the heroine, Shanna Whelan, a dentist and a part of the witness protection agency after witnessing and testifying against members of the Russian mafia. Did I mention that this dentist has a blood phobia as well? Shes a bit corny and campy and these two characters are bound to give the readers a non stop laughfest that will leave your sides hurting and tears rolling down your cheek.
If that doesnt do it for you then Im sure the kilt wearing bodyguards or even VANNA, the sex toy for vampires will do it for you.
The one major criticism of this book and the factor that kept me from giving it four stars is the unbelievably predictable plot. There wasnt a single thing that came as a surprise. As each event unfolded you knew how the next few pieces were going to fall into place. Even if, by some odd chance, you didnt manage to suspect how the next events were going to unfold then the authors corny one-liners at the end of each scene would clue you in. While humor and an easy to follow storyline are great it is also helpful to leave the reader somethings they need to figure out for themselves. After all, who likes to be told every single detail? Isnt the fun in reading a book the chance to step into an imaginary world and to piece it together step by step?
Things also tended to fall into place a little too easily and some characters were just plain corny. This might irritate people who like to see characters struggle along and grow as they overcome tribulations. If you take the book for what it was meant, a light comedy and parody of typical books in the vampire romance genre, then youll enjoy it. Though I must confess, even I was gnashing my teeth at the way the author quickly and poorly tied everything up in two pages.

Modern day, politically correct vamps, the good guys, manufacture fake blood so vamps don't need to bite mortals anymore to survive. Malcontents, vamps that want to keep using mortals for food, are bad guys that not only hate the good vamps but hire out as assassins, Throw in humor, love, and a CIA Stake-Out team dedicated to killing all vampires and you have a good book for light reading.

For some reason all of a sudden I'm into Vampire's. Not the scary mean, blood thirsty kind, but the lighter fun types. This book is a combination of a Mob trying to wipe out someone in the witness protection and a vampire with a tooth problem. It's a fun read.

Very funny book. Also has elements of romance and action. Shanna is a dentist who works the midnight shift. Roman is a vampire who needs one of his fangs reattached after an accident. This has to be done before the night is over or else the hole in his mouth where the fang should be will close up. Terrified of becoming a one fang vampire, Roman's servents frantically search for a dentist who works at night and they come up with Shanna. Shanna, thinking the tooth is a wolf's fang, refuses to put it in Roman's mouth. Thus starts the funny, sensuous romance between Roman and Shanna. Parallel to this plot is the fact that Shanna is in the witness protection program because of a murder she happened to see. Russians and nasty vampires are tied to this murder and they find Shanna's location. Good thing Roman has her move out of her apartment into this mansion. To add more stress to Roman, his archenemy Ivan Petrovsky, is out to destroy him and his blood manufacturing business. Roman is against taking blood directly from humans and has developed several different flavored blood concoctions. He has many adherents around the world. Ivan is opposed to this and wants to stay a "true" vampire whereby blood is taken directly from humans who are often killed. Will Shanna relent and reattach Roman's fang? Will the Russians and evil vampires find Shanna? Will Roman's archenemy, Ivan Petrovsky, finally get to kill Roman and destroy his blood manufacturing business? You'll have to read this book to find out.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I have never read Kerrelyn Sparks, but I have read many vampire authors. I can say, I will add Ms. Sparks to my list of favorite authors after this book. I like the ability of teleportation that the vampires in this story have. It has a good amount of romance, not too gorey violent. It has it's good vamps, and it's bad vamps. It also has a level of humor, such as Roman's fang falling out after biting a test doll to simulate biting a real human and drinking blood. I also like that it has a level of religion. Roman used to be a monk before he is turned over five hundred years ago. He thinks God has abandoned him, and it really bothers him. I have to say, this is a great book, and an excellent story!

I loved this book! Light, funny vampire romance. Good descriptions have already been given but I've read the first 3 books in the series and love it!There's cutesy humor, some sexy scenes, a decent romance with serious-ness concerning human/vampire being able to make a marriage work, and some bad guys after them.

I really liked this book. It takes a bit of a different approach to the vampire mate situation. Being bitten actually hurts... imagine that! The wrap up was unexpected, which is always good, but the "gift" Roman receives at the end is out of place, IMHO. Still, a good read. I've already received the next 3 in the series and can't wait to get started!

My first Kerrelyn Sparks book. Light, humorous quick reading. The style and tone are simple and matter-of-fact.
A vampire, Roman Draganesti, loses one of his fangs by biting into a doll with synthetic blood and needs to find a dentist soon or he'll be a one fanged vamp for all eternity. He is already the millionaire creator of synthetic blood that saves humans and gives vampires a morally correct food source. The doll is a recent invention to give the vampires the feel of the bite while getting synthetic blood but the plastic she's made of is just a little bit TOO tough. The dentist he meets, Shanna, is unline any mortal he's ever met and she needs his protection because she witnessed an earlier murder and the baddies are out to get her.

This was bought on a whim, mostly because I am on a vampire kick. It turned into a very good book, with entertaining characters! If you like vampires, this has a neat view on the "good" vampires - Roman, a 500+ year old vampire has dedicated himself to creating synthetic blood to save human lives and allow vampires to feed without harming humans.
Shanna, the heroine, is a dentist who is part of the Witness Protection Program. It turns out she (unknowingly) has a vampire hitman hunting her down. Who also happens to be Roman's arch enemy. When Roman sees a damsel in distress, he decides to become her protector.
Of course chaos ensues, as well as a love between the innocent, spunky, caring Shanna and Roman, who (like most romance novel heros) thinks he is cold hearted and evil, but loves her despite his supposed flaws.
Of course, being a vampire doesn't make any of this easy, either.
This was a fun, fast read. I just discovered it is the first in a series (hooray!) and I am definitely adding the series to my list of books to read!

The author never challenged traditional vampire myth, not even the can't be seen in mirrors. Which stems from the idea that what you see in the mirror is the soul of a person, and vampires being souless creatures of the night can't be seen. That's my only gripe about this book. I like the sequence of events and the characters.

I just could not get into this book. The majority of books I read are paranormal romance---and mostly involve vampires. I was expecting to like this book; however, I put it down after page 120. There are so many other great books and/or series on my TBR pile, that I felt I shouldn't waste anymore of my "reading time" for this specific book.
Reasons why I did not like the book: Well besides the fact that up until page 120, there wasnt so much as a kiss. The book lost my interest because of the drawn out timeline of events. I read up to page 120, and only hours past in the plot. It hadnt even been a full day!
Roman (the vampire) loses his tooth probably by page 10. He seeks a dentist (Shannon). Well, all I have to say is that where I left off, the tooth still wasnt put back into his mouth. Keep in mind, the reader is told immediately after he loses his tooth that he needs to have it fixed before the sun comes upbecause during the day, vampires sleep (and repair any wounds i.e. the gapping whole in his mouth).
The book was just dragging on for me. If anyone likes Kresley Coles Immortals After Dark series, you will surely be disappointed if you pick this book up.

When vampire Roman Draganesti accidentally breaks off his fang, he needs to get to a dentist quick. He goes to an all-night dentist office and meets Shanna Whelan. Shanna is a dentist who is afraid of blood. She also witnessed a mob hit, and is now in the Witness Protection Program. At the same time Roman shows up for dental work, the Russian mob also finds Shanna and tries to kill her. When Roman rescues her, she wonders if she has found the one man who can keep her alive.
Cute story. Roman is a vampire with a conscience. He invented a synthetic blood which will allow the vampires to stop biting humans, and save a bunch of human lives. Shanna felt abandoned by her family long before she entered the Witness Protection Plan. After meeting Roman and his friends, she begins to feel at home with them. It kind of drove me nuts that it took her so long to to figure out that they were vampires. I thought it was obvious long before she finally discovered their secret. Anyway, Kerrelyn Sparks has written a very amusing story with no real surprises. My rating: 4 Stars.

Not the typical dark paranormal vamp romance. Nice, lighthearted, with some laugh outloud moments. The writting was good and flowed ~ yes there are some things that are predictable, but I don't think it takes away from the story ~ and the characters that you meet are interesting and you can't wait to see what happens to them as the series progresses. The vamp background ~ although maybe not totally original is interesting ~ good vamps who drink synthetic blood vs bad vamps (malcontents) who feel that mortals are only good as a food source. And with an added threat from mortals one can definately forsee many funny moments to come as the series progresses.
Roman & Shanna have good chemistry from the start and the honest admiration they have for each other feels real.Their banter is witty and honest. Thankfully the author doesn't drag out the "OMG you're a vamp" thing too much. It's there and is thankfully addressed but not to where it takes over the story.
Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I thought this book was horrible. From the very beginning the writing was poor, the characters were shallow and the campiness too over the top to be funny. Perhaps it is supposed to be a spoof on vampire books, and it could be funny, I suppose, if it wasn't so poorly written. I only made it through the first 100 pages--and only that much because I kept telling myself it would HAVE to get better.

This is the first book I have by Sparks and it won't be my last. Good humor. Good Romance. Good storyline. I recommend it!!
Summary: So what if he's a bit older and usually regards a human female as dinner, not a dinner date? Yes, Roman Draganesti is a vampire, but a vampire who lost one of his fangs sinking his teeth into something he shouldn't have. Now he has one night to find a dentist before his natural healing abilities close the wound, leaving him a lopâsided eater for all eternity.
Things aren't going well for Shanna Whelan either...After witnessing a gruesome murder by the Russian mafia, she's next on their hit list. And her career as a dentist appears to be on a downward spiral because she's afraid of blood. When Roman rescues her from an assassination attempt, she wonders if she's found the one man who can keep her alive. Though the attraction between them is immediate and hot, can Shanna conquer her fear of blood to fix Roman's fang? And if she does, what will prevent Roman from using his fangs on her...
I keep falling more and more in love with fresh new vampire paranormal. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it had just the right about of steam and a great plot line. I have to say an Army of kilted vampire highlanders is not a bad thing to have in a book either. I have already started amassing the rest of the books in this series as well...hopefully I will receive number 2 in my swaps next week. *fingers crossed* I loved how brave Shanna was in facing off her enemies...I was a bit perturbed by her reaction being bitten though, she thought she could face down the Russian mob but not being bitten by a vampire? Well, ok I probably would have freaked a bit too. Anyway, I enjoyed this book immensely and will definitely keep up with this series. I am going to have to buy more bookshelves soon, or cull my collection again.

OMG - I bought this yesterday then read in one sitting. What a cute book. My first vampire book.
Roman is a vampire that has broken one of his fangs due to biting into a rubber sex doll to test an experiment. He needs a dentist...an all night dentist since he is dead during the day.
Shanna is a dentist that faints a the sight of blood working nights is the only way to make money. Someone killed her best friend and now blood makes her sick.
Roman goes to have his fang fixed when Shanna is attacked and he saves her. She has a strong mind and will not allow his mind control. He is fascinated with her. He takes her to his home. She begins to trust him so he enters her mind and she fixes his tooth.
There are good vampires and bad vampires that Shanna has to deal with to find her love with Roman. Highly recommended.

What a neat story! Roman Draganesti is the head of a major world-reknowned corporation famous for inventing a formula for synthetic blood. He's also a 400+ year old vampire...a vampire that's just lost one of his fangs from biting into something he shouldn't have, and he has only hours to spare to get his fang re-implanted again, else the hole will seal up leaving him a snaggle-toothed vampire for the rest of eternity...and it's midnight. Whatever will he do?
Shanna Whelan is having a bad time of it too. A recent witness to a horrific mob murder, she's a dentist who's been hiding via the federal witness protection program. Unfortunately, witnessing the murder left her squeemish around blood...not good for someone who must be exposed to blood regularly in order to do her job. So she's lucked up and found employment at an after-hours dental practice where she rarely sees a patient, let alone the red stuff.
On this particular night, the mob has found her with the help of a rogue vampire...and so has Roman...at the same time. Needing her to reimplant his tooth, he sweeps her away from her bullet-ridden office and offers her his protection in exchange for her services.
But somewhere along the way, the pair fall in love and must overcome their differences in order to be together. Towards the end, they marry, and Roman is trying to figure out a way for them to have a baby, as vampires are sterile. I hope this author writes a sequel, because I'd love to see how this story turns out.

In this delightful debut, Sparks offers a fun romance with a touch of the supernatural. Already hiding out from the Russian mob, the last thing beautiful dentist Shanna Whelan needs is to be smitten with a handsome vampire in need of dental work.
I'm not a big vampire fan, but thought I would try this book. I loved it! Very funny as well. I couldn't put it down and read it in a weekend.

Picked up this book because I wanted a break from the two very dark books I was reading. This was not the lite humor I had been looking for. It bored me. I found it tedious and even for a lover of vampire of "good" vampire stories, I found it absurd and the authors frequent "trite" sayings annoying. Just my opinion, but this debut was a letdown for me.

Can you guess that the dentist he finds is a woman? And not subject to the usual mind control vampires use to lure their victims? A fun, sexy, modern vampire story.

A fun vampire adventure/romance that has plenty of laughs. I found it only a tad predictable (which is much better than I can say for most books of this type). The title seems to be there just to sell books, and I found the ending to be a bit forced, yet I still rate it highly based on fun and a "page turning" story.

I enjoyed reading this book, but I wish it had a better story line. I found the story to be a little slow and anticlimactic, but enjoyable. I loved the characters and enjoyed getting to know some of them, I just wish the story flowed and made a little more sense. If you've ever read a Lynsay Sands book you might know what I'm talking about. I don't want to take away anything from the book, but some of the story didn't make sense. From the very beginning how can you have a dentist who is afraid of blood, how can you have a girl who has psychic abilities but never know it, or even be so undeceive about a man she clearly loves, how can you have her decide to never be turned when she previously said she couldn't stand knowing she would grow old while he never aged, and last is the fact that when she finds out that her father has taped and overheard the conversations of Roman and Ivan she doesn't even consider that her conversation is being listen in on......Doesn't make sense.
It took me over a week to read this book because I lost interest in it many times. Over the years I've read books that I finished in hours because I couldn't put it down and books that I felt it was torture to finish reading. This wasn't a book I couldn't put down........it was mediocre to say the least.

New series and right on the first page it sucked me into the story and would not let go. Roman is a very old Vamp that was turned when is was a monk back in the 1400s by an evil vamp but since he was turned he saved many lives but turning warriors to continue to fight against the bad guys. Since then he studied and created and own Roman Tech were they create fake blood for the vampires world wide wont have to bit people to live. He also creates 'special drinks' like Chocolate blood, Blisky- blood and whiskey. Anyways his people created Vanna- basically a female sex toy with moving blood so vamps can 'bite' but not hurt anyone. Roman tried it out but his fang got stuck in the rubber and he needed a dentist to put his fang back in before his death sleep. Shanna Whelan was in witness protection but her job is a graveyard shift dentist, when her boring night takes a turn to the worse by the people to help put away comes shooting up the joint but she gets rescued by a handsome man that is need of her services she never bargain for her feelings for a very old vampire . But she soon finds out that Roman is a pimp with not one or two women living in his town house but a harem or woman in many different era customs. Roman finds out that her FBI father knows what Roman is but is hunting and killing his kind including the good Vamps. Shanna and Roman feelings towards each other grow into love but he never does tell her his true nature until she comes to his factory where he has a party.

Great book! Roman Draganesti must find a dentist before dawn or forever be a lopsided Vampire. Shanna is the only dentist working at night, but troubles follow her as the Russian Mafia want her dead.
This book is a bit quirky, but enjoyable in it's uniqueness. In a way it reads much like a light hearted romance with the alternate reality added in for fun.
