This book started off a bit rocky for me. After reading Hendrix's Southern Book Club book, he had me as a fan for life. So I stuck with this one. I am so glad I did!
It starts off okay but then there seems to be constant bickering between Louise and her brother, Mark. It was truly tiresome for me but I kept slogging through. About halfway through the book, it was no holds barred craziness and it didn't really let up until the end. I was so immersed that I totally forgot everything around me. I love when a book does that!
So, if you are like me and struggling with the beginning... hang tough. It will pay out nicely. Also, the book isn't really about a haunted house so the title is a bit unusual. Maybe it was to throw us off??? Great read, though, no matter what the title is.

Remember the Talking Tina episode of Twilight Zone? Well this is Twilight Zone on steroids. Creepy puppets and dolls, this is the stuff of childhood nightmares. But it's also about family secrets, and sibling rivalries, and the consequences of families who deny all the hard stuff. It's very real life dynamics wrapped in a supernatural/horror tale. Nail-biting scenes had my anxiety levels shooting through the roof. I loved it! 4.5 stars.

Looks like I'm alone here---oh well

I know the reviews says the first part is slow but stay with it and the second half is exciting? Not for me

If like Chucky and Annabelle movies etc then you might like this one but I don't see movies like those and this book is more like them so it was mostly stupid and ridiculous to me

This clever, creepy, rollicking book will tug at your horror and heart strings. A look at grief, trauma, and how the things that haunt us aren't always supernatural.

Grady Hendrix writes books specifically made to delight (and break) me. This one was no exception. I became utterly obsessed with the story pretty quickly and could think about little else. The intersection of absurdity and the trauma of grief hit me very hard. I do think the pacing was a bit off in the final 3rd, but overall it was an incredible read.
