How much does he really love his wife? And how far will he go to get her back? Mitch is just an ordinary guy living an ordinary life with the woman of his dreams. Life is very good until out-of-nowhere a group of high-tech, calculating psychos kidnap his wife and demand a ransom of two million dollars. Mitch has no clue where a lawn gardener can find that kind of money, but the kidnappers have a well thought out plan that is slowly and painfully revealed in stages. And just when you think you have everything and everyone figured out - bam! Dean Koontz takes us on another wild ride through some unimaginable twists and turns. This is another great masterpiece by the master of mystery! I find it so amazing how this writer can have me doing belly laughs one minute and pulling the covers over my head the next. Make sure you have some reading time on your hands when you pick up this book, because you are not going to want to put it down.

I used to be a big Dean Koontz fan and had kind of gotten away, but I took this with a book bazaar deal. The description didn't sound like any of his books and I picked it up with pretty low expectations, but wow! I was trying to not get into it and I was hooked by the third chapter. And the chapters are really short (usually only 5-10 pages) so it's easy to start and stop. Of course it's also next to impossible to put down because every other page has some insane plot twist that you never see coming! The Denver Post wasn't kidding when they said "Moves like a roller coaster without brakes..."

I am a real Dean Koontz fan, and this is one of his best ever. Exciting from front to back, it's a thriller all the way. I had white knuckles just reading it.

2006 NYT Bestseller. Straightforward thriller about an average man dealing with those who kidnap his wife and demand $2M ransom. Excellent plot. Four stars.

I thought the book was really good, it kept my attention the whole time

Good Book...It was a nice light read, but there were times that I found myself making faces and my skin crawled. It's a bit disturbing at parts.
The only thing I can say that bothered me was the constant references to trees, plants and flowers. I got that the man was a gardener. It was driven sufficiently into my brain. I didn't need every description of a scene to have a corresponding plant metaphor.
Other than that - worth it. A good summer read.

This book was an entertaining thriller which kept me guessing throughout. I liked how the narration switched between Mitch and his wife Holly as they both tried to outwit the kidnappers.
Helpful Score: 4
This was a definite page turner for me. I could not put this book down and felt like I could not read fast enough. It kept me going until the very end.
Helpful Score: 4
I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as say Whispers or The Bad Place, but still a good read. Fast paced & a decent plot.
Helpful Score: 3
Got to page 33 and then could not finish. I have not read Dean Koontz in a while, and now I now why. I felt almost like I was reading a parody of a kidnapping/ransom book because it was so predictable and dramatic. I also want to care about the characters, and I normally do by page 33, but in this one, I couldn't care less what happened next.
Helpful Score: 3
an excellent read. one that takes you on a journey of how far a man will go to save the woman he loves.
Helpful Score: 3
such a gut-wrenching suspense. I have not read many of Dean Koontz novels, but this was such a good one
Helpful Score: 3
Not typical Dean Koontz but I had to keep reading to find out what happened. Draws you in right away and reads very quickly, which is good!
Helpful Score: 3
It hooked me from the start and couldn't stop. I read it in two days which is rare for me. Great plot twists and turns. Would give it a five except for another ho-hum ending for Koontz.
Helpful Score: 3
This was just an okay read. For me it was too wordy, and things moved at such a frantic pace it's like Koontz never took a breath while writing it. It started out great, and with a plot twist in the beginning that wasn't expected, but the book itself didn't leave me holding my breath like he usually does. It was so frantic at times I was lost and I just didn't connect with the hero at all. Still, worth reading, just not my favorite of DK's books.

Great book! Dean Koontz comes through again!!
I have always enjoyed Dean Koontz's books. This one is a real winner though. I finished this book in 2 days, as I was unable to put it down. It is captivating and one of the best books Koontz has done.
Helpful Score: 2
Another fantastic Dean Koontz book! Everything you'd expect from a Koontz novel is there: suspense, wonderful creativity, fast-paced plot, twists and turns galore! My boyfirend, my sister and her boyfriend (who has pretty much only read textbooks and the first Harry Potter book in his life) all passed this book around and loved it.
Helpful Score: 1
A new and different type of story for Mr. Koontz, but with his ever present "twist" at the end.

I haven't been a fan of his last few books but this one was excellent. I read it cover to cover in one day.... couldn't put it down.

I thought this book was a thrilling page-turner with interesting plot twists, although some of the plot twists were not so surprising. I found it to be very different from previous Koontz books I have read. It would probably make a great movie.

The way Koontz details the characters draws you in and makes you want to hate/love them. The book had many surprises which made the book a real page turner. I could not put this book down.

Typical Koontz brilliance!

This book was horrible.

This may be the best Koontz book I have ever read. It gets away from his usual horror/sci-fi genre but really grabs a hold of the reader. Highly recommended.
Helpful Score: 1
Suspense, mystery, and psychological rollercoaster ride! This is a great book. Some of Koontz's books deal too much in the supernatural for me, and I think he's much better when he lets his characters seem like they could be the people next door. he does exactly that in this book.

It keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Mike is trying his best to save his beloved wife from the bad guys. A lot of twist and turns and you wonder how he's going to save her. He's just a small business man and they want 2 million dollars from him in exchange for his wife they hold hostage. Does he come up with the money, does she have doupts that he will, who are these people, and why him???? Read the book and get the answers. It's a fast book to read.

The story starts with a hard-working landscaper receives a call from a kidnapper demanding $2 million in exchange for his Wife. How is he to get that kind of moey together in a short time? Koontz is a master story teller, with plot twists and insights into human psychology. He writes women's thoughts so very well, and demonstrates how connected the Husband and Wife are in their thoughts. It was a good book and kept my interest through the very end.

I don't read too much Dean Koontz because he kind of freaks me out, but this book was quite good. He's got a few good twists in it to keep you guessing. Definitely an easy read, but one that I couldn't put down.

This book freaked me out! The wife is kidnapped and the kidnappers expect some regular dude to get a million bucks in ransom!

This book held my attention from the first few pages. It begins with a landscaper who is at work in someone's yard. He gets a phone call saying that someone is holding his wife for 2 million dollars. They then get his attention by pointing out the guy walking a dog across the street. He is shot dead. The story continues with the main character attempting to figure out where these people are located, how they keep finding out everything about him and where he will get 2 million dollars.
As the book continues and the story unfolds, unpredicted things seem to happen. You won't believe who is really behind all of the happenings and it all goes back to the guy with the dog.

This is an awesome book. The thrills start in just a couple of pages and there are alot of twists and turns! One of his best lately!
My husband reads all the Dean Koontz books. He said that this one was not great, but good and worth reading.
Great Book - Not quite as intricate as other Koontz - but an easy to follow! As in Dean Koontz style - always a challenge to guess which direction the next turn will take!
I liked it, but not as much as other Koontz books!
Really keeps you going til the end. One of Dean Koontz's best.
Couldn't hardly put it down. Excellent!
A little thin on 'Koontz' but I enjoyed the characterizations.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me riveted. Kidnapping, murder, ransom, suspicious police, this book has it all. I would classify it more of a mystery/thriller than a horror as Koontz typically is.
Good read, but for Koontz it got a little "flowery" with the writing.
I'd give this a 7 on my Koontz-meter.
The first Koontz that I have read. I couldn't put it down, and I didn't see it coming.
A little different that what I have read of his before. It was fast read. Good story line.
This was NOT a very good book. It moved very slow and it wasn't one I'd recommend. It had chapters, and I mean chapters of nothing but descriptions.
I enjoyed this book~~it was more mystery Koontz than thriller Koontz, but I liked it and could not put it down!
Good change of pace for Koontz. Very enjoyable.
Great read!
This is another great Koontz book. I couldnt put it down!
It keeps you on the edge of your seat and really makes you wonder whom to trust.
Great story.
Kind of a letdown. Not horrible but not really good either. Just kind of so-so. It was VERY wordy...even for Koontz. I was really hoping for another home run like Velocity.
I'm so confused. I have been a Dean Koontz fan for years, ever since I first found Strangers in my high-school library. There had NEVER been a book that I didn't like, until the release of VELOCITY. I actually, almost, nearly, dare I say it?--hated that book. Then along comes THE HUSBAND, and I wanted so badly to love it like I loved previous books like WATCHERS, ODD THOMAS, and PRODIGAL SON. Alas, it was not to be.
The premise of thrusting an ordinary man (a gardener/landscaper) into unbelievably horrific circumstances was a good one. Unfortunately, I couldn't "like" the characters. Said gardener was bland and boring; his wife (who has been kidnapped) seemed to be little more than an afterthought. The "extra" characters in the book didn't seem to flesh anything out at all. To be honest, I didn't finish the story, although I did flip to the last chapter to see how it ended.
Overall, it was okay, but I long for the days of more supernatural magic that Mr. Koontz's early books brought.

Good book, classic Koontz.
Suspenseful!!!! Great Book!!!
You will love this book....it's a fast read and suspenseful!
We have your wife. You can get her back for two million cash. Landscaper Mitchell rafferty thinks it must be some kind of joke. He was in the middle of planting impatiens in the yard of one of his clients when his cell phone rang. Now he's standing in a normal suburban neighborhood on a bright summer day, having a phone conversation out of his darkest nightmare.
Whoever is on the other end of the lien is dead serious. He has Mitch's wife and he's named the price for her safe return. The caller doesn't care that Mitch runs a small two-man landscaping operation and has no way of raising such a vast sum. He's confident that Mitch will find a way. If he loves his wife enough...
Mitch does love her enough. He loves her more than life itself. He's got 60 hours to prove it. He has to find the two million by then. But he'll pay a lot more. He'll pay anything.

Thriller by Dean Koontz, with good twists and turns. As usual in Koontz's books, his charactors draw you in, they have flaws like all of us but struggle to do the right thing against all odds. Recommend highly
This is an easy read. I enjoyed the story and consider it to be a page turner.
Another great book from Dean Koontz. Surprising twists, kept me reading until I was done :)
Lots of twists and turns. But kinda predictable.
Dean Koontz writes another page turner with "The Husband." Block out a day and a half and just enjoy the read.
Great Read. Fast-paced from the very beginning. One of Dean Koontz's best.
Alittle hard to read but it worked out in the middle.
Koontz is great! Gretchen is enticing and evil, the kind of woman every man wants in his dreams! :-)
Kontz's latest. Standard Koontz.
It was okay. I was intrigued at the beginning, but bored by about the middle. Overall it was just okay.
fantastic read
Excellent book! One of Dean Koontz's best!
great Koontz book. I couldn't put it down.
I was caught by the description of the book, and once I began to read it, I was totally absorbed! Just when you think you know where the story is going, it twists in another direction! Great suspense!
Loved this book - great Koontz thriller!
I am a slow reader but this book was hard to put down and I read it very fast.
I love this author's thrillers and I liked this particular book a lot. The ransom story line is unique. "We have your wife. You can get her back for two million cash". No problem-except the man getting the call is an ordinary man, a gardener of modest income and the caller is deadly serious. This is a Koontz novel. Expect the unexpected. One of his best, quite out of the normal thriller zone. A man will do anything......if he loves his wife enough! Another book you will not put down until the last page, so don't start it if you don't have time to finish it!
Excellent read! I sat up until 3 a.m. to finish it! I absolutely could not put it down!
Not my favorite Kootnz story but was still a good read.
I liked this book, it really kept me interested. I almost couldnt put this book down. Would recommend it. The ending has a weird ending...but its a good read.
Good book. Kept me interested and wanting to know what happened next.
Wonderful, wonderful book. An exciting, captivating, quick read. One of my favs by Koontz.
Terrific book! A fast read!
This book grabs you & you can't put it down. Great story.
Very quick read but I enjoyed it. The author gives A LOT of description - maybe too much sometimes. I mean descriptions about random things, mostly plants. I guess because the main character is a landscaper but the plant descriptions just didn't interest me. I kept thinking: "hurry up and get on with the story."
Full on unexpected twists! Loved it! Couldn't put it down!
Koontz, what HAPPENED to you!? I used to LOVE Dean Koontz's books...they were smart, deep, and scary. This book was none of those things. I finished it in two days (bad sign) and was never once suprised, scared, or even entertained! There was ONE "twist" in the whole plot and you could see it coming a mile away. Then the book just ENDS. The main character does all sorts of illegal things to reach the conclusion of the story so you expect the ending to be bitter-sweet. Nope. Nada. BIG thumbs down. Come on Koontz, you can do better than this!
I couldn't stop reading this book. Plenty of plot twist and tension. The ending was tied up fairly quick, but it was as it should be for an ending. Worth the read in every way.
Very good book, lots of surprises. Enjoyed very much
Great story, keeps you on the edge of your seat and rooting for the main character. Dean Koontz is an amazing storyteller and this book shows it!
Great Book! Suspenseful - a real love story of what a husband will do to save his wife.
This is not my usual genre to read. But, I must say, it kept drawing me away from other activities. Mitch is just an ordinary man with an ordinary occupation--gardener and landscaper. He is drawn into a nightmare, ignorant of why his wife has been abducted since he doesn't have that kind of money for ransom. His love for his wife opens his mind to see behind what he thinks he is capable of doing.
The descriptions of landscapes--trees, shrubbery, etc., does seem overdone, but Mitch's knowledge of plants and grasses actually helps in some situations.
A great read, highly recommended.

Great book!!! A lot of unexpected twists. I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would.
One of his best!
Easy read. Good surprises, really evil guy in the story. I liked the book and it was a break from some of the heavy stuff I read.
I sort of miss the way Koontz used to write the creepy actual horror books, so I was reluctant to buy this book. I am so glad that I did - I loved it! I was so near finishing it yesterday and the phone kept ringing, company dropped by, and boy I was starting to get aggravated, ha! I would give this one a 5 except that I felt he added a couple chapters just to make the book longer. What do I know, he makes the money, not me. Still I give it a 4+++.
I really enjoyed reading this book.. It was a Page Turner .
As usual for Koontz, another page turner!
I enjoyed this book, as I do most of Dean Koontz's books; he is excellent with suspense. To me, though, this one was a bit of a let-down...perhaps I just expect too much out the man, but it is suspenseful and intriguing- but not on the same level as Life Expectancy or Velocity. A good read, just not one of his best.
Sometimes I just need to listen to my husband when he says "If you're not interested in a book or think it's dumb within the first 100 pages it's okay to stop reading it."
This book I plodded through because I hate leaving books unread if I start them. I hear that this book is really good and it's a quick read and so interesting and Dean Koontz is such a great author... um... I'm just going to say I was unimpressed.
the story was too descriptive for me, the names of plants, the phases of the moon, the color of blood dead guy here, dead guy there. Too much!
I'll admit that the story was okay I didn't truly mind reading the parts about Mitch (the main character) but when the author diverged to Holly's (the wife) point of view he lost me.
I'm not a big reader of suspense and realistic novels I prefer to live in the fantasy worlds that other books offer. I think this is the first suspense novel I have read since I was a pre-teen and Nancy Drew.

Story line was good but was a slow starter. If you stay with it, it is a good read.
This book was an easy read. I found it quite simple and read through it very fast. The ending seemed to soon to me. Maybe there will be a part 2
Excellent suspense/mystery!
Wow! Dean Koontz has written another book that grabbed me from the beginning and wouldn't let go until the end. Great read!!
I read this in one day!
Great!
Ask yourself this question, would your husband do this for you?

Different from most Koontz books, but I really liked it.
Great Book. Couldn't put it down. Easy read.
We have your wife... you can have her back for 2 million cash. Who do trust? Who do you turn to? What would you do to get her back? This was a great book! There were lots of twists and turns and you had no idea who was "good" and who was "bad".
Great book!! Koontz always provides a great read!
Do NOT start this unless you have time to finish it. This is one that I finished at 4:15am this morning. I REALLY could not put it down until I found out how it all turned out. This is the best Kontz book ever in my opinion. How does he think up these plots?
What would you do for love? Would you die? Would you kill? An ordinary man finds out the answers to these questions when his wife is kidnapped and held for a 2 million dollar ransom. A really good thriller!
One of Dean Koontz's better books. Fast paced and interesting read.
The thing I liked about this book is that it gets into the action quickly. There were some slow parts to it, and Koontz seems to overdo his long descriptions and references to things such as the WIND. How many times do I need to hear about it?
However, the story itself is entertaining and suspenseful. I wasnt expecting the surprises thrown at you. 4/5 stars.

Great book, Could Not put down... love the suspense and mystery. It's truly a MUST READ. I truly enjoyed it.
Everything Dean Koontz writes is great. He has the knack of creating an intricate plot that never-the-less is easy to follow and he strategically places mystery around every corner. His latest book, "The Husband" is no different. Easy to start and hard to put down. It is one read that would appeal to male or female reader.
Very Good!
One of my favs by Dean Koontz. A+++
I listened to this on audio today and it was such a disappointment. No humor, no golden retriever's and a bland leading man who finds himself in an unthinkable situation when his wife is kidnapped and held for a ransom he can't possibly meet (he's a gardener). Chaos ensues, secrets are revealed and all ends relatively well. It had its moments of suspense but overall was a pretty blah Koontz novel. Not horrid but nothing I'd be interested in reading again.
One of Koontz's Best.
Loved this book. Had a lot of suspense and kept me intrigued to the very end.
This was one of Koontz best books. I could hardly put it down!
This was very enjoyable. I liked the plot twists in this story. I just shows how far some people will go for the one they love.
This was an interesting Dean Koontz book in that I was kept interested the whole time. Plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing, all the way up to the very end.
Very good. Keeps you on edge until the end.
we have your wife. you can get her back for 2 million cash.
I really enjoyed this book- read it in 1&1/2 days.
WE HAVE YOUR WIFE... YOU CAN GET HER BACK FOR 2 MILLION CASH.....
THE HUSBAND was too gimmicky for me. It starts off assuming the reader will care what happens to this man's wife when you've never even met them yet! This was all about plot, not characters--a very poor balance.
I wasn't ever pulled into the conflict and couldn't have cared how he raised the ransom money or whether or not anything happened to the wife, so found myself skimming just to finish.
This probably goes over great with a male audience. I give it a C-.

THE SUSPENSE IS IS FANTASTIC, THEN THE SURPRISE IT APPEARS THE HUSBAND IS GOING TO LOSE EVERYTHING HIS WIFE ,HIS LIFE BETRAYED HIS BROTHER.
Dean Koontz doing what he does best. Storyline had a few twists here and there, but was predictable overall.
We have your wife. You can get her back for two million cash. On an ordinary afternoon, an ordinary man, a gardener of modest means, gets a phone call out of this worst nightmare. The caller is dead serious. He doesn't care that Mitch can't raise that kind of money. He's confident that Mitch will find a way. If he loves his wife enough. Read this book. Arguably it is not only Koontz's most superior work, it is also one of the best books by anyone this year.

Good book. It put's a good feeling in your heart to think that a man would go this far for the one he loves.
From the beginning this book is on fire. The turns will keep you glued. Dean Koontz is an awesome author. Do not hesitate to read about what this husband is all about.
Book was boring skipped pages and still knew what was going on, ending seems very far fetched
THE HUSBAND by DEAN KOONTZ is one of my favorites. It's a book that ,once you start you will finish reading it quicker than you thought. It's impossible to put this book down. It's a surprise at every turn of a page.It had me on the edge of my seat. The villain is one of the creepiest villains i have ever encountered in one of KOONTZ'S novels.I will definitely read this book again.

Another great Patterson read. Edge of your seat.
