Very sweet and well-illustrated book that follows the traditional lullabye.

my toddler and I love this book. it's a great twist on a traditional song. the new lyrics are not about buying things or breaking things. they are about the going to bed routine in a sweet and clever way and observing nature. i have given this book as gifts and my son requests it often. love the illustrations too.

LOVE this book for my toddler. We've sung the original version of course, but he actually prefers this version. I think a large reason for that is because Long's version included tangible items my son has contact with (humming bird, night sky, books, warm bedspread, shooting star, etc) as opposed to things which really don't enter into his daily life (horse and cart, billy goat, diamond ring, etc.). Also, Long's version focuses on sharing things with Mama, not Papa buying off the kid's love with random presents, which is why I prefer this book.

Overall, this is a cute book with nice illustrations that I reccomend for new and expectant parents, to replace the outdated version of the song. You will not be sorry for keeping this book on your bookshelf.

A gentle re-telling of the famous lullabye.

Note from the author:
"As much as I love being an artist, my favorite and most important profession has been being a mother. I sang and read to my children, just as my mother sang and read to me. One of the songs that has bothered me as an adult is the original version of "Hush Little Baby." In it, a mama offers her baby comfort by promising to buy him or her all sorts of things. It seems much healthier to encourage children to find comfort in the natural things around them and the warmth of a mother's love. This belief was my inspiration for the new version, which I hope you will enjoy."

" The previous version of "hush Little Baby" offered the baby comfort by promising to buy him or her all sorts of things (a mockingbird, a diamond ring, horse and cart, etc.)
It seems much healthier to encourage children to find comfort in the natural things around them and the warmth of a mother's love. This belief was my inspiration for a new version, which I hope you will enjoy as much as I enjoyed creating it."

My 2 year old grandson loves it and has memorized it. I appreciate the new words to the old song. Pictures are small I thought.
