Excellent! In the same category as Taylor Caldwell's "The Captains and The Kings" or "Rich Man-Poor Man". Danny Lavette goes to the top of business to find money and power - then only when he falls does he find happiness and what is really important to him.
Don't know when I have enjoyed, or been so caught up in a book as I have been with this one. Loved it. Almost 500 pages of great reading, good research into the history of the period, and wonderful characters. I can't wait to read the rest of this series about the family who came here in poverty as immigrants. I just couldn't put it down and read only at night from about 5PM to 9:30Pm and finished it in three nights. Great reading!! Genny Sikes

The book is old, but in good condition
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like a book where people struggle mightily but who are rewarded in the end. Recommended. Information about the historical time is vivid.
This book provides the basis for Howard Fast's series documenting a century of living on the West Coast. It is well researched and engaging.
