I have a very small list of books that i cannot finish. This is now on that list. Her other books usually have humor to help them along. This one doesn't even have that. Her main characters in almost all her books are basically the same character. I have serious doubts that i will ever buy one of her books again. Erin McCarthy is getting more and more disappointing to me the more books i read.

I am normally not into this genre of romance, but I had read a handful of Erin McCarthy's contemporary romances and loved them. I really liked this book a lot. I can't wait to read her other paranormal romances. This one was a definite must read and is going on my keeper shelf!!!

Enjoyed this book a lot. Couldn't put it down as I couldn't guess how it would end. Marley Turner, one of the book's main characters, was a likeable, reality-based heroine. Damien, her antagonist, was a dark, brooding stuffy hunk that was about 200 years old due to a deal with the spirits. Takes place in the plantations around New Orleans. Highly recommended!

This is the first in a series of books about demon servants, charged with the task of promoting sin amoung humans for their master's dark purposes. It was darkly fascinating and deeply disturbing.

The bulk of the book is told in two parts--one an account of the past, told either through letters or the characters themselves, and the other in modern times. In New Orleans, circa 1790, we learn that Damian du Bourg is a selfish, cheating, semi-abusive husband to Marie. In addition to this, he makes a deal with a demon that gives him immortality in exchange for his servatude. That is, he shall spend eternaty encouraging the sin of lust amoung all he meets. Even shy, frail Marie succums to his irrisistable lure--to her ultimate doom. In present day, Damien is simply trying to get by, quietly repenting for his sins while doing enough to satisfy his demon master. As it turns out, this means throwing sex parties. Marley, a reserved and moral school teacher, shows up on his doorstep looking for her sister who disapeared after one such party.

I was very suprised that the author managed to redeem Damien as much as she did. I still find his history disturbing in the extreme, but not something I couldn't get past. Marley is fairly easy to relate to, though a little bland. The plot is quiet, no action to speak of, and yet I was never bored.I wish we were given more background on the demons themselves, but the author seemed more intent on character developement. Overall, this was quite a page-turner.

GREAT book from start to finish. It's one of those books that you don't want to put down until you've read the last page. I highly recommend this book...or any of Erin McCarthy's books for that matter.

This is truly a talented author. I have never read any of her works before. I loved it from beginning to end and hope to read her other works in the future. The character development is exceptional and truly draws the reader into the story.

Not McCarthy's typical humorous romance but interesting. The story of Damien de Bourg the 200 year old slave to demons whose mission is to bring sensuality to the lives of humans. Staid Marley Turner searches for her sister who disappeared on Damien's plantation. The plot was okay- it didn't grab me but it was readable. I did like the character of Marley though!

I read the second book first and enjoyed it but thought it was more of a typical romance. This one is much better. It's not your usual Erin McCarthy book so don't expect a lot of humor. I love the way it was written where you have letters from Damien's wife from the past that details their relationship and who he was as well as he he is now with Marley. It was intriguing and I really do like Marley with all her faults and co-dependent issues. I also like that not everything gets resolved. Thought this book was nicely done and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Great Book! I was excited to read it just based on the reviews and reading what the book was about - BUT it was so much better than my expectations! The story flowed so smoothly, I could not put the book down and read it in one night. This is the first book by the author that I have read and I look forward to reading her other books as well!

On the fence with this series. I didn't love it, but didn't hate it either.

Hmmm I thought this book would be a bit better. The paranormal aspects of the book were never really developed so much. The Grigori demon's background, Rosa's nor Alex's powers were ever really explored, and the deal could have been a lot more in depth with more requirements/consequences. And the book's climax was seriously flat and lacking.

I did really like Marley's character and her personality. Damien I never really became to attached to. His justification for his behavior in his youth before and after his deal were insufficient. I just never saw him as sincere. What kept me reading the most was Marie's letter's and the insight into her life, thoughts, and emotions. If it weren't for that addition I don't think I would have even finished it.

All in all I did finish it, and it was ok, but I don't think I would read it again or really recommend it to anyone.

I didn't know what to expect when I started readingt this book. But, I am blown away. I began the book thinking I wasn't going to get it. I was barely into chapter one thinking "Whoa" and before I realized it I couldn't put it down.

The story takes place in two different centuries. How? Through Marley in the present reading letters written by Marie in the past. You can't discount the letters either. They contain vital information to Damien's character and ultimately his redeeming, if not flawed, qualities. She even manages to make the physical act of Sex and the feeling of Lust the antagonist in the story.

Erin McCarthy is definately one of my favorite authors and deserves the praise she gets from the critics and readers.

A first grade teacher is looking for her flakey free spirited sister ewhen she meets a man who awakens her dormant libido. A little bit of the paranormal mixed with the romance. Erin McCarthy does a nice job with well developed characters.

Wow this series is off to a great start. Paranormal romance and borderline erotic romance if you like that sort of thing. Tame for the ER genre but certainly hotter than your ordinary romance novel.

The hero is not terribly heroic, although when you read this book, keep going even though he will probably leave a bad taste in your mouth. I thought the first introduction of him and everything we read of him in the first 50 pages or so are pretty despicable. Slave owner, rapist, adulterer, misogynist, and more. Also was a bit mixed on how I felt about his contemporary "heroism" being that he gives pleasure to ugly women. Gee thanks. Whatever, I still liked the story and found their love story convincing and hot.

Can't wait to read the next in the series.

This is a great story set in the 18th century. See what happens when you bargain for immortality.

Ms. McCarthy delivers again. When you ask for immortality you don't always get what you bargained for. Good story set in the 18th century.
