The brutal five-day operation, known as Starlite, was a major victory for the Marines. Author Robert Seiber joined the United States Marines at the age of seventeen in 1963. He took part in Starlite. Robert Seiber was born in Tennessee, but raised in Minnesota. After two tours in Vietnam in which he received two purple hearts, he worked for a major equipment manufacturer for thirty years.
