Math! War. Rarefied intellectuals, often gay men, confronting the first world-war. And trying to solve one of the long-standing mysteries of mathematics: the Riemann hypothesis. I enjoyed the varied characters, many unfamiliar, and the alien feel of the setting, even though it's not that far away or long ago. It did take me a long time to finish, just being interrupted by other things, and shorter books. I'm glad I read it.

Not sure what to say here. I've never read a book that could more easily put me to 'nap' in my chair after just one chapter. And I mean over and over again. And that is highly unusual for me. On the other hand I stuck with it despite that and eventually finished it. Overall I felt the homosexual scenes dominated too much and took away too much of the aspects of the other main characters and the overall pace of what was going on in the storytelling. They were just distracting. I wanted to, but never really felt a real Ramanujan..as the characters themselves state in the book they never seem to reach him or know what he is thinking.
