This novel was a great find for Alcott fans. The very concept of a novel being discovered and published after the author's death is amazing! This is an opportunity to read the first work of the author of Little Women. The moral concepts, within the core of the story, are very much the same. It is well written and I believe that readers will begin to care about what will happen to the main charactor, Edith Adelon. This story has it all: a great romance novel: impossible love, secrets, a villainess and a sweet ending. A must read for any Alcott fan!

I had been searching for this book for a long time. My mom just happened upon a very nice copy at our local Goodwill store. I read the book in a day and am completely satisfied. Alcott always has such a way of making me fall in love with her characters and making my heart twist with despair at their despair. Her main character in The Inheritance, Edith, has qualities that I myself wish I had. The story has many examples of sacrifice and such devotion, that are very touching. This is a book worthy of a place on my shelf for years to come and one I can't wait to share with my own children someday.

Edith Adelon is an orphan working as a companion on an English country estate. She has and affection of her wealthy patrons and the love of the kind and noble Lord Percy. But a shadow soon falls over her happiness, as another man vies for her attentions and the jealous Lady Ida sets a dangerous trap. To save herself, does edith dare reveal her secret inheritance? This is a love story by the author of Little Women, written when she was seventeen.

Believed to be the author's first work, written in 1849 when she was 17 and apparently never submitted for publication. Set in England about an impoverished orphan who holds the key to her birth in the locket around her neck.

This is Louisa May Alcott's first novel, written at age seventeen. It was found not too long ago and is a real treat for any of her fans.
