The only time I ever set this book down was when my mother grabbed it from me at dinner time! My fingernails were entirely gone because I chewed them off in anticipation!!!!!

This one definitely started out better than Inkheart did (which I felt started out slow). I was captured right away by this the events in the first few pages. It's a very good story for any age, although it is quite long at over 600 pages, but is such an enchanting story that you hardly notice when spots do get a little slow.
Even though Dustfinger is my favorite character, I couldn't help but get annoyed at him with his thing he has for Resa when he's supposed to be "in love" with Roxane. But, after reading enough of Roxane, I can't say I blame him as she just wasn't one of my favorite characters because of how she treated Farid because she thought he was Dustfinger's son. It's like it was okay for her to have married another man while Dustfinger was away, but not for Dustfinger to have known anyone else.
The only thing that's really driven me buggy through both books is the use of quotes from other authors' novels. I just found it distracting and unoriginal. I think it would've been better if quotes had been made up from the Inkheart book within the story. It would've added more flavor to what we've already learned of the place.

I liked it- and I'm eagerly awaiting the third book

A much darker story than Inkheart, it nevertheless was a well crafted tale. I need to read Inkdeath, just to get the story finished! The convolutions of the Inkworld, not fully under Fenoglio's control never really got resolved.
I was expecting Orpheus to be a bigger player, but his part was negligible after he sent Mo, etc into the Inkworld. So again, I need to read Inkdeath to see what he will do.
Ms. Funke did herself well, in this volume. We'll see what happens next, shall we...?

I read this at age 10 and loved it. I also liked the Thief Lord. I can't wait until Inkdeath comes out.
