A series of exerpts/essays from various authors, including Norman Mailer, John Jakes and Joan Didion. The editors' definition of Inlandia is a little bigger than the Inland Empire, because it includes Palm Springs and the Mojave Desert. I don't know if the writing made me depressed or the knowledge of the places.
