9th in the series. Kinsey works to solve a murder 6 years after it has been committed. She also solves another 6 year old case that ties in with the murder. Another great book by Sue.

One of the best of the "alphabet" private eye mysteries I've read to date. Kinsey is in a new job (replacing the aging PI who met a sudden death) and needing to make good on her first investigative case and restore her self confidence. She gets info that seems to exonerate the opposition of murder so resigns herself that finding out "the truth" is more just than winning their case just to keep her position with a law firm. As always, her neighbor (and landlord), the 80+ Henry, adds wonderful character to the story. A variety of interesting witnesses soon become possible suspects til Kinsey's investigative skills find the connection between the murder and the PI's untimely death and point the finger in the right direction.
I started reading this series because I was out of reading material, I found a box of brand new books in a box that my mom sent home w/me. they were A thru F, I was hooked.
Reading through the series. I thought this was one of the better ones.
This is the best Sue Grafton I've read.

Now Kingman, acting as attorney for the dead woman's ex-husband and their child (and sure that the jury made a serious mistake), is trying to divest David Barney of the profits of that murder. But time is running out, and David Barney still swears he's innocent. When Kinsey Millhone agrees to take over Morley Shine's investigation, she thinks it is a simple matter of tying up the loose ends. Morley might have been careless about his health, but he was an old pro at the business. So it comes as a real shock when she finds his files in disarray, his key informant less than credible, and his witnesses denying every having spoken with him. It comes as a bigger shock when she find that every claim David Barney made checks out. But if Barney didn't murder his wife, who did? It would seem the list of candidates is a long one. Sue Grafton series are really good, if you have never read them you need to start at the begining. I know you will enjoy them like I did!

as good as the others!!
I liked the pacing, how the plot was laid out, and I especially liked the resolution. I wasn't expecting that until almost the very end of the book. There was definitely a satisfying number of suspects, with many dark secrets. Nice sense of place as well - by now everyone who's read one of these knows Grafton patterned it on Santa Barbara CA, so it probably helps I've been there a lot. Kinsey makes some pithy comments on how the rich live. Also liked the personal bits - Henry, William and Rosie were pretty funny. Sixteen more to go in the series.

A tight, fast-moving story...with a nail-biting climax.
This is another Kinsey Millhone book. She is a private detective. In this book, she is asked to take over an investigation when another P.I. dies. A woman has been murdered. Her husband was aquitted of the murder & swears he's innocent. Kinsey is trying to find the truth. This book will keep you guessing until the end.
I loved this series enough to read it twice..
The vowels always have better plots than the consonants.
Sue Grafton is, hands down, the best crime detective novelist I've ever read. I recommend this book, and all the Kinsey Millhone detective books to anybody who loves to read.

Great reading as usual with this author. I like her character Kinsey Millhone.

this book you can read in a day and feel like you have read a substantial mystery and had fun.

Now Klingman acting as attorney for the dead woman's ex husband and their child is trying to divest David Barney of the profits of that murder. But time is running out and David still swears he is innocent.
This is an extra copy butIam sure it is just as great as any other Grafton mystery I have read! She is really good!
