A slow, gentle start to what I assume may be a slow and gentle series. The writing and storytelling are very good, up to the standard Beaton set in her Hamish Macbeth series. But Agatha Raisin herself doesn't grab me yet: she is neither likable nor unlikeable. Good friends -- friends who have never steered me wrong on book recommendations -- strongly recommended the series, so I will read at least one more before deciding.

This was my first time reading the Agatha Raisin series; I'm familiar with the storyline from the AcornTV series. I've read several of the Hamish Macbeth books by the same author, M. C. Beaton.

Agatha retires to the Cotswold hoping for calm village living. Well, we know that English villages can be murder, and that's exactly what Agatha gets--she gets three in one year.

The writing is upbeat; the characters are funny; the description is adequate. I'd like more description of the Cotswolds.

I will read more of the series.
