I loved this book, and I'm not a gardener. From the back cover: "extraordinary for its whole concept--a kind of biography of a garden through the mind of the woman whose garden it is, and of the people who helped her make it." If you choose it, good for you; if you don't, I get to keep it.

A kind o biography of a garden through the mind of the women whose garden it is, and of the people who helped hr make it. It's not just about a garden, but the state of mind that comes from having a garden. Heart-wrenchingly elegaic, and very soulful.

Dorothy Sucher writes a wonderful memoir about her gardening experiences during the summers and early autumns spent in her cozy blue farmhouse located in a beautiful part of Vermont. The book is down homey and nostalgic. She describes, among other things, the planting of flowers, creating of a pond, making a walkway through a lovely section of her property, and the wonderful wild birds and animals who visit her there. There is no down side to this writing. It's inspiring to read and gives one something to daydream about on long winter days.
