At times I wasn't sure if I was reading a mystery, a fantasy or a true crime novel. Tom is dead (or is he?) Piper still sees and talks to him, as do the rest of the inhabitants of Frick Island. Why did he die? What are they hiding, if anything ? Is it just a quiet little town or is there something else to hide? The Island itself plays a large role in this book. Frick Island is based on Smith Island, which really is in the Chesapeake Bay. Mildly amusing, this book doesn't drag out once the denouement is revealed, a light enjoyable book.

The Invisible Husband of Frick Island by Colleen Oakley begins with a tragic death in a storm and ends up a sweet, sometimes silly feel-good summer read. The story goes exactly where you expect it to go. It is at times over the top but in a way that has me laughing at the twists included. It is at the same time sweet and charming, perfect for a summer beach read.
