This was a very good story that brings you into Harry's family and what it is like to be a jewish family in the 40's. A learning experience for sure.

Very enjoyable book, it is hard to believe there was such prejudice in our live time.
I enjoyed the book very much. It tells of a time we should all make ourselves familiar with and translate to today's world. Tolerance of people's differences would make our world a world of peace.

I loved the main "character" and thought the book was very well-written. My book club read it and we all liked it.

This book reads like the best historical fiction, but it's not fiction at all. It's the author's story of growing up in an England divided by the Jewish/Christian "difference" before the Nazis ever showed up. Harry Bernstein could see the difference looking out his own front door...on one side of the street, he lived with his Jewish family and neighbors, on the other side were the Christians, and rarely did they cross that "invisible wall" running down the center of their lane. The details are indeed rich and the story draws the reader in immediately. For me, the most remarkable detail is that the author wrote of his boyhood at the age of 96!!
It isn't your typical Holocaust book and the better for it.

I was so touched by this book. And to learn the age of the author was so inspirational.
We think life is tough until we see how others have struggled and not only survived but contributed so much to others.
Harry's family was quite unique--so much contrast between "good and evil" GOOD being Harry and his mom. BAD being the father and sister Rose.

Wonderful story, full of rich details that take the reader right to the place the author grew up. I only wish his story didn't end.

A true story from the deep perspective of a life well lived--the author was over 90 years old when he began this trilogy. Books one and two, The Invisible Wall & The Dream, present an insiders view of poverty, antisemitism, the consequences of breaking with religious tradition, and stubborn hope for the better life of the American dream.
Having begun in 1942 Europe, this memoir concludes in book three, The Golden Willow, with a love story for the sole remaining family member. In this third book the author finally realizes both his mother's dream and his own. Spectacular insights into history and humanity. -Angie

Excellent story based on true lie of Harry Bernstein in Manchester England during World War I time period about poor working class people who lived on the same street, Jews on one side and Christians on the other, and all the cultural opinions and religlious differences that separated them. And a love story too of lovers who cross borders. Very poignant and enlightening.
Great!!!
