I listened to this one on audio. While not a long book, it deals with very heavy issues like isolation, love, loss and redemption. Definitely different from the Wallender series, but it has such terrifc writing and it is why I keep coming back to read Mankell. The book reminds me a little of Linda Olsson's "Astrid and Veronika" which was also a great read. Very highly recommend.

This is one of Mankell's best...left me with a good feeling even though sad events dominated the story. You never quite "like" the main character, like everyone he is rather flawed, but seems to be trying to change. Not a mystery like many of Mankell's other tales.
