I LOVE this book. It is my new favorite book. I know a watered down version of many of the people in this book. It is just a wild, wonderful, ride. I could not put the book down.

I didn't hate this book too much to read it, but it wasn't what I expected from one of my favorite authors. When an author writes himself into his own book (as an asshole, no less), that's a bad sign. When an author basically updates an earlier novel (Microserfs), that's a worse sign. And when an author feels the need to fill page after page of pointless, HUGE text, that's a nail in the book's coffin.
I'm really afraid to read the two novels that he's written since, but I'm hoping he was just having a bad year.

I found the author to be so unbelievably pretentious that it was hard to read the book. Inserting himself into the novel was the end for me. It wasn't even useful to the plot! Also, I felt that most elements of the story were put in for "shock" value only and not to actually make the book better.
