I'm a big fan of paranormal romance and loved the premise of this new series. Jacki Frank's first book "Jacob" was creative and interesting and humorous. Usually, I don't like the flippant, tough talking female characters. But this one (Isabel) is a strong, funny human woman with just enough irreverence to keep the scenes from getting too heavy and melodramatic. I liked the mix of fantasy and reality. And the secondary characters are really interesting, leaving lots of room for future stories.

This is the first Nightwalker book in the series and it was great! I love authors that are able to introduce a group of characters that stay close through out the series.

Excellent paranormal- at first I thought the book was about vampires. But it's actually about demons.
For 700 years he has resisted temptation.
But not tonight....
Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them and they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, or the curse of the moon. His control is total..... until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes.

This was an unique tale of a story about demons. It makes you look upon them and other "unusual" things differently. Very well written and I couldn't put it down, literally read it in a day. Just bought Gideon and I'm anxious to read it as well. It was erotic, and steamy with an excellant story to back it up. You become absorbed in the story, left wanting more at the end.

Get through the first chapter or two & you'll be hooked until the end.
It was refreshing to read a paranormal romance with characters who were just a little different. These aren't vampires or shifters or weres, these are Demons.
And the Demons are not bad guys! They are not typical 'horned & hoofed' boogie men from Hell. Instead they are in tune with the elements, Fire, Air, Water, Earth, and have powers which align with each Demon's specific element.
I think the cover makes this look much more of an 'erotic' read than it really is. Yes, there are few sex scenes, but they are not overly blatant or kinky. In fact, the Earth Demon Jacob, has a little trouble controlling his ability to 'move the earth' (literally) during sex which leads a bad guy to them so she even gave it, the sex scene, dual purpose.
I only gave it 4 stars because you have to blow me away to earn a 5, but I was drawn in enough that I am impatient to read the next installment, Gideon. We got a good glimpse of him in Jacob - just enough to tease & entice.
If you enjoy paranormal romance, I recommend giving it a read.

Totally enthralled with this series! Way better than Feehan, but the characters have the same drive and mentality toward their devotion to one another. A balanced combination of romance and erotica. I just found a new author to add to my list of favorites! I just hope the rest of the series has characters as touching and these two.

I found this a fun start to the Nightwalkers series. I liked all the characters, the romances were quite steamy, and I found the story line exciting. I am giving the book as a whole 3.5 stars- I just could not get past the gushy sweet talk and found myself rolling my eyes over and over at the over the top lovey dovey behavior (could he call her "my little flower" ONE more time?)
If not for this, I would have given 4 stars for the world building, story and romance aspects. Not exactly what I expected but I will continue reading this series to see where it goes!

Jacquelyn Frank spins a new take on the world of the preternatural. A world where Demons are not necessarily the monsters of our dreams. Jacob is the enforcer of the Demon Kings laws, but finds himself compelled to challenge those laws when he is irresistibly drawn to a woman who is human but also so much more.

I have been reading the entire series, but thought best idea was putting a review on the first book. I'm enjoying the entire series. It reminds me of Nalini Singh's Psy-Changling series but just not scifi/futuristic. I'm also reminded of the J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. However in comparison to the Brotherhood series, Nightwalkers has more sex, less banter/humor, and not as well developed story line. Initially I hoped the story would favorably compare to Anne Bishop's Black Jewel series. But Anne Bishop still remains supreme in story telling. Even so, the Nightwalker series is highly enjoyable.

This is the first book in the Nightwalker series and it was great! Jacob and Bella were the couple featured in this book - it was great getting to know them as well as the secondary characters. The book had action, adventure, romance, tension and intrigue that was interwoven with the paranormal. The way that Frank wove the plot was awesome...in reading a new paranormal series, there is always world and character building...there is also twists in the plot, but this one had me on the edge of my seat, kept me guessing and although I had an idea of where it was all going to go, I had no idea how it was going to get there...
I will definitely be reading the series...the writing was smooth...and the storyline interesting...I read it in one day!

I just finished this book in three days and I loved everything about it. The author has set up a fantastic fantasy world and I cannot wait to read the rest in the series. This book was a little like Twilight but I know it was written before so maybe I should say that Twilight was a lot like this book. All in all, it is a fantastic read!!

Steamy hot...although I generally like better developed characters and dialog. I get tired of the mind reading and perfection of the pairing, everything is resolved, all character flaws accounted for, etc. Otherwise just a good fun read.
Helpful Score: 1
A good start to a series. Establishes the mythology of the Demon race. Love scenes are pretty hot, the characters are fairly interesting. My biggest complaint is that the character's "voices" sounded the same to me. A lot of use of the word "brat" which just felt out of place for a 700 year old Demon to use for anything but a child. But Frank created a lot of interest in other characters who will be the stars of future books. I'm anxious to read Noah's story which evidently is not told until book five!

Absolutely amazing! Though honestly to me, the nightwalkers of Jacob's 'species' sounds more like djinn/genies due to their elemental powers over nature, she mixed it wonderfully to include the more 'demon' aspect of their nature and how it is brought to the surface due to necromancers and black magic.

Took me a bit to really get into this book, but at about the 3rd chapter or so I really started to enjoy it. Loved Isabella ~ great heroine ~ spunky, intelligent and can kick butt if necessary. Jacob ~ hot, a little tortured, but an all around good guy who is trying to figure out why the one thing that he is supposed to avoid at all costs, is the one thing that feels so right. Bella & Jacob make a great couple and the chemistry between them was great.
All the secondary characters were really interesting and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series to see what happens to all of them.
There is a lot of information in this one and the series should probably be read in order.

Terrific new series comparable to J.R.Ward and Christine Feehan. Loved it.
This was a good book! As the first book in a series, it was not as gripping as I would have liked, but when I finished reading it I knew I was gonna read the whole series. Jacob and Bella are destined to be together and have to fight the Demon laws to do so. Jacob was a little to needy for my taste, but I couldn't help falling for him just a little. Bella was a wonderfully charming, smart, strong, independent character! Even in the midst of chaos, I like it when a character is sarcastic and makes comments that leave you unable to laugh out loud, Bella had that way about her! You also meet some other amazing characters that follow into the next couple of books. Definitely recommend this book and its series to all who enjoy romance, mixed with a little danger and of course, some characters not of the human variety!!! Enjoy!!!
Loved this book. Very entertaining. This and the next book in the series were my favorites.
First time I've read Frank's work. Well written & enjoyed the story line. I would order another one of this series.
This is a very fast read. I do like this author's style. Jacob is a Demon and Isabella is a restless human craving something different in her life. She falls out of her fifth story window and into Jacob's arms literally. Isabella saves herself and Jacob from a transformed demon and plunges them into a torid love affair. It turns out that Isabella is a Druid and subject of a twisting prophecy from long ago in the Demon history. It's erotic, thrilling, and a good read.
Like Twilight, but for adults. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. "Jacob" is written in a casual, easy style that makes it easy to follow the "fantasy" portion of this book. When something unexpected happens, the authors follows it up with some explanation (in later paragraphs, for instance). It was my first book of this genre (other than the Twilight series), and I ended up ordering the rest of this series because I enjoyed it so much. Unlike some other books of this genre (based on members' reviews), "Jacob" is not cover-to-cover sex. It has an *actual* storyline that I was interested in, and that I am hoping will be furthered with book 2, even though book 2 has a different main character. I found it easy to imagine how the characters look, feel, and act. The romance portions of it were well written, not lewd, and easy to picture (if you are so inclined!). I am very much looking forward to reading book 2!
I really could not get into this book. It did not grab my interest. I read through to the middle of the book before calling it quits. It has everything that I usually like in a book but something was just not right. I think it was little slow for my taste.
Great story! I just looked that complex characters. There never seemed to be a dull moment.
Book was a little different than I expected. I am new to reading paranormal so it may not be unexpected to those used to these types of books. It was good and I am going to be getting the next book in the series.
Loved it, love the series
I have enjoyed all of Jacquelyn Frank's book so far, especially the Nightwalker series. I am seriously looking forward to the next one.

Excellent book. I cannot wait to read the next one.
Oh, goodness. I've found a new guilty pleasure series -- one that ranks up there with J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. It's cover art is cheesy, and there's quite a bit of, um, spice in the content. But overall, I'm really intrigued by the premier novel of Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalker's series.
In Jacob, we're introduced to the world of Demons, which aren't anything like the snarling, grotesque monsters that humankind believe they are. In Frank's world, Demons are intelligent, beautiful and ancient beings that live in harmony with humans -- except for twice a year, when the moons of Beltrane and Semhain make them a little impulsive, uncontrolled and lusty.
Jacob is the Enforcer of his race, and keeps the peace and doles out punishments during the moon-crazed weeks that try all Demons' control. For 600 years, he has lived to protect humans from Demons -- but finds himself inexplicably -- and uncontrollably -- drawn to Isabella, a young New York librarian that falls into his life one night while he is tracking a necromancer. These human magic-weilders are Demons only threat: when a Demon is Summoned by a necromancer, they are forced to serve the sorcerors against their will and perverted into the ugly and insane Demons depicted in literature and religious texts.
Jacob provides a compelling love story that was exceptional for a novel of this paranormal romance genre -- the characters actually experience relationship development instead of the star-crossed lover syndrome that's stereotypical. There's a lot of repetition used as Jacob and Isabella tentatively edge toward a romantic (not to mention illegal and immoral) relatinoship, but there's a lot of chemistry between the characters and the steamier scenes are written with lots of sizzle, but tasteful language. Frank manages to write passages that will fog up your glasses without using profanity or coarse sexual slang. Again, an impressive feat for this genre.
The action, world-building and cast of supporting characters in Jacob are all also excellent. The book sets up an exciting premise for a multi-book world, and does a good job of endearing its secondary characters to readers and making them eager to see more of them in primary roles in future books.
That said, I'm looking forward to reading the next book, Gideon, very soon. Like, as quickly as I can get to the library again soon. And I guess that's one of the highest recommendations I can give.

My favorite of the series; quirky, fun heroine paired with a dark edged dangerous immortal. Chaos ensues, friendships grow, respect is earned, enemies made, and love blossoms. An absolute must read.
Good story line. Different than a lot of the vampire paranormal books. This one is actually about demons. Although the story line was good the main characters seemed to fight over who loved one another more throughout the entire book. It was kind of annoying but, the story line kept me reading.
Loved it. Can't wait until I read the other books.
Such a GREAT read. I love the characters in this series. The males are so strong and dominating and the females are just as strong.
I loved this book and all of the characters. The storyline was very good, a bit different from most of the books in this genre. I cant wait to get the next one in the series.
Very well written with an interesting twist!
It's not bad just not good enough. By the end of the book I just didn't care.
totally boring! too much standing around wandering in each other's mind w/no results. Was only able to wade thru half the book before gave up as waste of time.
