I have read and loved James Herriot's books and always thought they were autobiographical. According to this biography, not so. I knew James Herriot was a pseudonym and that his real name was James Alfred Wight - people called him Alf. I didn't know his books were novels written in the first person that were highly fictionalized, only loosely based on his life as subject matter. I enjoyed this book and appreciated the photographs that were included. My only complaint is wishing there were more photos of James' personal life, family and friends instead of so many of the actors of the tv shows and movies.
