A well-written biography that gives insight into her talent and her struggles. Even though I knew how the story ended before I began reading it, I found myself hoping that she would be able to work through her issues and cheering for her to make it. The book is thoughtful and honest.

I have read several books on Janis' life and this is by far the best one I've read to date. It is very straightforward with no attempt to sensationalize the darker aspects of her life. The author spells out in bits and pieces the wonderful gift that Janis had and outlines her brilliant, but tragic career. The author did a lot of research for the book and it shows. This is quite a well written book.
