A great book, by one of Canada's most celebrated and popular novelists.

Rachel is a 35-year old school teacher who has no man in her life and lives at home with her mother. When a man from the big city returns to her small town and asks her out,she begins to have to make decisions about her life and where she wants it to go. Although the setting is a town in Canada, it could be any town where the suffocating social mores threaten the tenuous hold that an uncertain woman may have on reality. Was made into a movie in 1968 "Rachel, Rachel", starring Joanne Woodward and directed by Paul Newman.
