From her childhood on the French martinique where her father had a sugar cane plantation, which he barely could keep going, to her hard times during the terror all the way to Empress with Napoleone, this book covers it all in wonderful detail and makes you feel as if you knew her and were even there yourself. I just loved it!

Carolly Erickson is one of the greatest writers around. This book is not an easy read but truly informative of the period. I only wish that I had started reading this type of stuff when I was younger and not waited until I was an old man.

Carolly Erickson has written another wonderful history of a much misunderstood woman married and divorced by the most powerful man in the world at that time. A pleasure to read and easily understood. Genny
Interesting and good read.
