I bought this book yesterday in ebook form as I really wanted to read it. I finished it today. Very powerful, emotional book. Not only is about love, it also is about the dire straights of health care in America. Although I don't believe it was Alana Stewarts intention, I ended up screaming at the walls about the lack of care that is available to us in the states! I have experienced first hand the lack of care we receive but to know in my heart that Farrah would still be alive if she had remained in Germany, well, I hope the American doctors sleep well at night.
I recommend this book but you should be prepared for the intense feelings it provokes! Great job Alana!

I wasn't prepared to like this book as much as I did, but it really got to me. Farrah Fawcett's bravery and sweetness came through on every page, and I find I admire her more now for having read this book. The writing was plain and no frills, but very moving. Farrah's battle was harrowing and ugly; her determination to live was inspirational and beautiful. Alana Stewart proved to be a wonderful friend, and the spiritual and personal growth she herself made during the course of their journey was very powerful; a success story on top of all the sadness.
At the same time, I just wish Ms. Stewart didn't possess the streak of flakiness she revealed in the book. Passsages such as: "My astrologer doesn't like the date of Farrah's surgery tomorrow. Mercury is still in retrograde...she'd like her to wait until next Wednesday..." really aggravated me. Oy. Palm-slap to forehead more than once. But overall, it didn't affect my impression of the book negatively to any great extent. This is a surprisingly powerful book. Very recommended, as long as you are prepared for the very unhappy ending.
**** Four stars!

This is what girlfriends should be like. This book told the "untold" story about Farrah's fight with cancer - how difficult it was, how solid their friendship is and was, how valiantly she fought the battle, differences in treatment between the US and other countries, etc. Told from Alana's journals, it is a poignant story that will leave you laughing, thoughtful and crying all at the same time. I hope that I fight life's battles with the same Faith and will that Farrah had. Wonderful book.

This book was great - it is the story of true friendship. At times though I had to wonder - where was Ryan O'Neal at during the years of treatment? It seemed he was an afterthought at the end of the book. I was truly balling at the end - very emotional and well written.

A beautifully told story of their special friendship. It was humorous and heartwarming. Serves as a fitting tribute to that great talent taken too soon.
