This book is a wonderful account of the friendship the author shared with Ms. Hepburn. She was and is an inspiring female force that everyone should learn about and from.

I enjoyed this book very much. It was very personable, touching, revealing and humorous. I loved the relationship that developed between the writer and Ms. Hepburn. Her recollections of her times with many actors, directors, producers and even Michael Jackson were entertaining. It is a heartwarming book that traces her life written gracefully, with deep respect and love. I learned much about Kate Hepburn from her stories of her childhood, her ancestry, her loves, her passions, her philosophies on life and death, her strong work ethic and her loyalties to her family and friends.
It is a wonderful book that includes some lovely photos of her, too.

Most of the 370 pages describe Kate's experiences with every major movie she made. Although not many pages are spent on any one movie--the volume of pages adds up quick.

The latter part of the book is the most enlightening about who Kate is as a person, not the actress. What a remarkable woman.

An excellent bio of Kate Hepburn, written by her friend and Pultizer Prize-winning author, Scott Berg.

This author truly captures Kate Hepburn. I loved the way her sense of humor came through the author's re-telling of his time with Kate.

The author was a good friend of Kates and writes a thoughtful account of her life. It gave a good insight into her life not just a record of the movies she made. It was very well done.

This would be more appropriately titled "Kate and Friends, Remembered," as Berg delves into so much detail about every aspect of Hepburn's life. LOTS of information here, so hunker down. You really have to be a a Hepburn fan to stick with all 8 cds. Berg weaves in details of all of her films, personal relationships, friendships, friends of friends, divorces, Old Hollywood, Hollywood Royalty. My cat and I listened to this on a long drive, and Tony Goldwyn's voice(narrator) was so soothing that Jimi(kitty) was asleep the entire trip. Yeah, she's a Hepburn fan as well.

Those of us of a certain age, growing up watching re-runs on television of her moives, will recall Katherine Hepburn as a strong personality, with a unique accent and as a woman of definite opinions. Scott Berg was allowed to personally interview Kate over many years, developing a close friendship. The stories give a depth to Kate's life that would not be evident to a casual movie-goer. This classic collection is a good addition to bios of women who made a difference.

This is a great book for anyone who wants to know the real Kate Hepburn, not just the actress, and who loves the history of the early Hollywood and Broadway years.

From the author's note:

This book is one...not a critical study of either Katherine Hepburn's life or her career. It is, rather, as true an account of her life as I can present, based on countless hours of private conversations during which she reminisced. Even more than recalling events, Miss Hepburn often used our time together to reflect, an exercise in which I don't think she indulged with anybody else. And so, more than my remembrances, this book intends to convey hers.

I LOVED this book! Scott's relationship with Katharine Hepburn was close and real. He got to know her well, and she was more honest with him than with most of her other friends. He also lived with her off and on for years and was with her days before she died. If you're a fan of this actress, you will really enjoy this book!

I finished this book about a month ago and should have written the review then when it was fresh in my mind. I'm not a Kate Hepburn fan. I grew up in the 50s and 60s when KH was a well-established star. I wasn't and still am not someone who goes to movie theaters. But, I have watched movies on TV and often like to watch movies from the 40s and 50s. I have seen a couple of KH's movies on TV but didn't watch them specifically because of her. I know she's considered one of America's great actresses but I (thus far) haven't agreed with that view. The only reason I even read this book is because a friend of mine somehow ended up with two copies so she gave me the extra. I had it for about two years before finally getting around to reading it.

Some of the Amazon reviewers have remarked that they thought this book would be a biography of KH and were disappointed that it wasn't. However, in the "author note" at the beginning, the author makes it clear that he is not writing a biography.

As I started reading, I found that I didn't like KH as a person--she was extremely bossy. Her long relationship with Spencer Tracy was well known. It didn't seem to bother KH in the least (according to author Berg) that she was having a relationship with a married man who would never leave his wife. Tracy was a hard core alcoholic and could be verbally and physically abusive (although per KH he "only" struck her once, I believe). However, my dislike of KH as a person has nothing to do with the 3-star rating.

Berg recalls conversations he's had over the years with KH and often puts them in quotation marks which suggests (at least to this reader) that these are verbatim. Unless he had a tape recorder going while he was talking with KH, he shouldn't be using quotations around what he, KH, or anyone else said.

In the "author note" Berg also brags about his close and special relationship with KH: she "often used our time together to reflect, an exercise in which I don't think she indulged with anybody else." She very well may have reflected with others except they didn't write a book about it.

I was also surprised at how few pics there were for a book like this. The ones there were all seemed to be publicity shots, old family photos, or movie stills.

Even though I didn't have any feelings about KH before reading this book and wasn't particularly impressed by Berg's tome, I may read KH's book and also tune in to some of her movies.

After reading this book, I went to NetFlix and ordered every movie that was mentioned. The writing was good and just finding out more about Kate was wonderful. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and many of the locations mentioned were very familiar to me. A must read for any Katheryn Hepburn lover.
