This book was SCARY! The Killing Lessons is a nail-biting thriller that is not for the faint of heart. Should appeal to fans of Karin Slaughter.

I didn't like the writing style at all, when you have to start out with foul language on every page and just descriptions that are meandering all over the place it just makes it hard to get the story going.

Now I will say the story started out with a bang but all of the above took away the anticipation of the rest of the book, I flipped through it and it is mostly just a story told by descriptions without much dialogue and what interaction there is with the characters it seems foul language is the only way they know how to talk, gets old trying to get through that.

I think this is a debut novel for Black but he'll have to get his writing into a tighter storyline for me.

Reading this was kind of like a rollercoaster. At first it started out great. Really short chapters that would end with a bang, had me reading continuously. Then we get to the chapters on the main character, Detective Valerie Hart. I actually did not really care for those chapters and found the moaning of past love irritating. So one minute I'm up then the next I'm down. Through the detective's chapters I skimmed. Luckily, her chapters did pick up and she ended up winning me over. The story is definitely not for those with weak stomachs and/or issues with lots of profanity. It is very horrific and the pace is adequate. Would read more from this author.
