One of the strongest of Fairstein's series yet, with a convoluted plot that keeps you guessing right up to the action-packed climax.

Very good! I finished it in one day.

The Kills is the 6th book in the Alex Cooper series by Linda Fairstein. Cooper works for the Manhattan DA's office. She is trying a rape case that seems to be attached to the murder of an elderly woman. The US government, a dethroned king, and a little boy are in the center of the story. But can she find out how the cases are connected before she becomes another victim?
It is edge of your seat action until the end.

Not one of her best efforts, but good to keep the character details of their lives in order.
Enjoyable, but I don't think it's her best effort. I never got fully into the story until about halfway through -- in the end it was a good read, but I was worried for a bit. I still like this cast of characters and the Greater NYC settings.
She i sa new author for me.. she's great!
Twisting threads of 2 seemingly unrelated tragedies....in the watery inlets of New Jersey known as the Kills...
Great plot, very enjoyable and I didn't want to put it down.
Manhattan Assistant DA Alexandra Cooper is working feverishly on a tough trial, seeking jutice for investment banker Paige Vallis. But in a heated "he said, she said" case, Alex learns that Paige herself has something to hide. Uptown, the murder of an elderly woman with an intriguing past has NYPD officer Mercer Wallace and detective mike Chapman hunting for an item of stunning value that may have cost McQueen Ransome her life: a legendar Double Eagle gold coin. The twisting threads of the seemingly unrelated tragedies soon entangle Alex in a life and death struggle in the watery inlets of New Jersey known as the Kills . . . where a violent predator is determined to silence her forever.
I love this series. This is one of the best. Two unrelated murders are tied together in a most unusual way, with a little bit of history thrown in for good measure. It's a great book.
Great setting descriptions!
Manhattan ADA Alexandra Cooper is on a tough trial for Paige Vallis. Uptown, the murder of an elderly woman sends NYPD officer Mercer Wallace and detective Mike Chapman hunting. This is an intriguing book. A good thriller.
I have read Fairstein's Alex Cooper Series through book 6 and have thoroughly enjoyed the series thus far. Enjoyed all but book #5 which had way too much information about museum archives. This book deals with some antiquties, however, there is more of a human element to it. Enjoy how Fairstein develops her characters. Very believable and likable. The Kills is certainly a good read with good twists.
All of Fairstein's Alex Cooper novels are set in New York City and most include interesting little known corners of New York City and explore various aspects o business and the arts. This novel is no exception and involves, a high end coin collection and the activity of an elderly victim back in the 1950's
This, like her other novels. continues an interesting cast of characters from earlier books, the detectives and other attorney's she works with and the interaction with her and each other working together as a team.ADA Cooper along with her sidekicks, Mercer Wallace and Mike Chapman are once again embroiled in a whodunit that defies the usual norm. Going to bat for a witness to murder leads to other murder investigations but it is not clear how they relate to each other. Get on the boat because you are about to take a cruise to the "Kills," an area in New Jersey that is a known dumping ground for bodies.
