I had a hard time with this book. I finished it and it was entertaining but I thought the premise was weak and the characters a little idiotic.

For Carr fans, this kind of revisits Ian's and perhaps Paul's story. Patrick has to deal with the death of his best friend and the widow. The idea that Patrick would want to marry Marie out of a misguided attempt "to take care of her" after Jakes death is taking it to the extreme. I find it hard to believe Patrick would be that dumb. At least in Paul's story, he was always in love with Vanni.

On top of that, Patrick fails to really hear Marie and was ready to bulldoze her into a friendship marriage. That doesnt make him seem noble. It makes him a narcissistic selfish twit. Angies reaction of love and understanding, feeling like Patrick is just doing the right thing by throwing her away to be with Marie made me throw up in my mouth just a bit. Then Im left to ponder who is the bigger idiot, Patrick or Angie? Thank god for Marie or I would have wanted to tear the book apart.

I did love to revisit all the old characters and traditions. I wished there were more family scenes and I loved the short side story of Megan. I hope we get to read her grown up story in the future.

Overall, yes read it if you are a fan of Carr and wants to read every book in the series. But if you havent read Carr before, skip this one and find something else by her.

Angela Lacroix comes to Virgin River not only to visit her Uncle Jack and Aunt Brie, but to sort out her life. After a terrible accident sidelined her for months, she is rethinking medical school and may want to go in another direction. She and her mother are disagreeing about her future, so she wants to spend some time in Virgin River to sort out her life.

Patrick Riordan, the youngest of the Riordan brothers, is also in Virgin River. He is on leave from the Navy after witnessing his best friend dying in combat. Now he is reconsidering his military career and wants to be alone to think about it. But when Angie and Patrick meet at Jack's bar, there is an immediate attraction. Friends and relatives who notice the attraction try warning the two of them that now isn't the time to get into a relationship. But the two people who came to Virgin River to be alone, now just want to be alone with each other.

This is a wonderful final book to the Virgin River series. Angie has always been driven to study and become a doctor. After her accident, she wants to take a break and do some of the things she has been missing. Patrick needs to figure out how he is going to take care of his best friend's widow, Marie. I wanted to slap him a couple of times when he thinks marrying Marie and becoming a family is the best thing to do. Thankfully, Marie has different ideas.

The nice thing about the Virgin River series is we get to revisit many of the characters. This story is full of them, including the whole Riordan clan and the Sheridan family. I'm sorry to see this series end. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

This is one of a series of a family type
stories that make a wonderful soft read. You feel as if you know the peole if you are reading the series.
Won't keep you up nights but it's a "feel good" story.

If you have ever taken a visit to Virgin River with the fantastic characters that Robyn Carr has created, then this will be an extra special read to enjoy during the holidays. New characters are added - Angie and her special friend Megan - these two will make quite the impact in the small town of Virgin River. Angie has just survived a major car accident and needs to escape her parents home to recenter herself and find out what path she wants to go down next.
