I just learned that on Kindle Unlimited authors only get royalties for a book if you read more than 10% of it. I guess that makes sense from Amazon's viewpoint since they could be paying royalties for someone say "download my book, please, you do not have to read it, I will get money". I use Kindle unlimited mainly to get cheap audios at Amazon with the whispersinc option. I often find books where the kindle is unlimited, the audio is a reduced price. I do the Unlimited, buy the audio for a reduced price, and return the kindle without reading a page. My goal now is to support that author by skimming to the 10% or more mark even if I do not plan to read the kindle version so they get a bit of cash from the transaction. I know of one Paperback swap member who wrote a Kindle Unlimited offered book. <name here is Jade> Is anyone else a member and author on Amazon Unlimited? :)

I love Kindle Unlimited. I've read quite a few books from it. I didn't realize that the author didn't get paid unless you read 10% of it. |

I figure they are getting money for the audio book sale, which is what I am listening to, I didn't get the book to read it, after all.

Thank you Dorothy for sharing the information about the 10% clause on KU authors. I'm a KU subscriber. Right now, my favorite author is Blythe Baker--I love her Rose Beckingham mystery series. How much does a KU author get? I don't know why I think this--I heard that they get like .25 cents to .75 cents a book. |

Guidebook to Murder (A Tourist Trap Murder Mystery) Book 1 by Lucy Cahoon is on KU. There are 57 PBS members wishing for the book; they need to check Amazon. I've put it on my Books I Want to Read Wish List on Amazon--I just hope it's still on KU when I finish the Alexie Sherman collection of short stories that I'm currently reading on KU. |

I use Kindle Unlimited as well as Scribd (which is fabulous) and PDFDrive (also fabulous.) I want to reduce my hardcopy books down to only those I can't obtain digitally. Ebooks have too may advantages and paper books can overwhelm when you have a huge # like I do. As far as audio... I dn't often use audio but when I do, I can just have Alexa read the book to me for free so I don't need to buy audiobook narration.
