A rolllicking, rabelaisina saga, southern style.
This romp through the world of barbecue cookoffs is classic Shankman. Muliple characters (each well developed and as idiosyncratic as Sam Adams' American Weird book) come together in Tupelo, Mississipi for 'cue, money, revenge, and Elvis impersonators. Lots of fun!
this is a samantha adams mystery.. she catches the dark, joyous, eccentricity of the american south.. a very good series.. this is number 5 in the series
cute story line, involving Elvis bits and pieces if you are a Elvis fan this will be right up your alley.
Sam and Harry have traveled to Tupelo, Mississippi for a barbecue cook-off. We also meet Mary Ann McClanahan who is seeking to meet the OTHER Ms. McClanahan and perhaps "get rid of her". Mary Ann gets run off the road by a tire flying off a semi-truck and she meets the driver, Dewey. Dewey is on a mission of his own. Wonderful characters in the book that Ms. Shankman develops and you don't want the book to end!
From the back cover:
"Crime reporter Samantha Adams is working on a book called "American Weird" when her boyfriend, Harry Zack, persuades her to join him at a barbecue cookoff in Tupelo, Mississippi. As Harry puts it, the King's birthplace "ought to be lousy with weird." Besides, they're driving a genuine pink Cadillac...."
