If you have finished Ellis Peter's Brother Cadfael series and are looking for something comparable in quality in roughly the same time period, then read about Owen Archer, a creation of Candace Robb. Also a former soldier, and now an apprentice herbalist (sound familiar?), Captain Archer works part time as a spy and investigator for the Archbishop of Canterbury. Unlike Brother Cadfeal, Owen is married and has a daughter.
All are good, but, IMHO, book four in this series was the best yet.

This 14th century mystery series set in York is, in my humble opinion, ranked only behind the pinnacle of Medieval mysteries, Ellis Peters' Cadfael series. This one takes place in Windsor and York, 1367.
This is the 4th book in Candace Robb's Owen Archer series. It takes place in 1367. The historical background is very interesting discussing the later part of the Edward III's reign, but the mystery was not as good as the previous 3 books. I think she wanted to tell us about some historical facts and tried to weave a mystery around. Still enjoyable though.

another great book with owen archer's character. i really to enjoy candace robb's writing about early england. with so much detail i feel like i am there. any fan of archer and robb must read this book.
