I loved this book. So many times Margaret Pole is portrayed as a villian and a plotting old(er) woman. This book shows how a lot of the things she did were to protect herself and her family. A very sympathetic person.
(Don't know how to get rating to "Loved It" - always goes to "No Rating". This is a GREAT book and I LOVED IT. Very interesting look into medieval life.

First book I have read by this author and I find her style easy to read and interesting. Learned quite a bit on the King Henry VIII era (looked up a lot of facts while reading it). What a nerve wracking time to have been around and at the whim of not only the king but his corrupt officials. We often forget how antibiotics and health care have greatly changed our world: just understanding germs and the spread of disease, clean water, food preparation and storage, high infant and mortality death rates...things we take for granted today were not common practices during this time.
